Aye. All the shite they spouted on here a few years back. Rats deserting a sinking ship when the 5th and 6th went in.

Not even the biggest club in their own city.

In fairness, every club would likely see many empty seats with that level of performance.

Always been impressed by fans who stay put and crank up the support volume in that type of situation.

Loyalty. Should be a watchword for all of us. Too many quitters.

Ive always banged the drum about the Prem being the strongest league in the world.

Not this season its not. Has to be the worst set of clubs since its inception.

The promoted 3 are the worst ever. Clubs like Brentford, Bournemouth, Fulham as well, absolute pish.

Fulham were excellent last season and Brentford frequently gained fine results.

Bit harsh calling them pish, given where they finished.

Unless of course the rest were largely pish too, given they frequently took points of them.

Don’t think he was referring to the quality of the team; more the size of the club

i really dont know why anyboddy would care about 'size of the club'

surely thats exactly what the 'against modern football crew' rail against

get there on merit, stand or fall on merit

True, but to a neutral Brentford Vs Bournemouth don't get the juices flowing even as much as Villa Vs Everton, nevermind a Leeds Vs United.

But then you get some real success stories like Brighton who I think most fans like to watch play and beat the so-called bigger teams

Not sure which clubs would be any different?  When Wigan scored their 4th here it was a "fire drill" moment for many, nobody has to justify leaving a game that is all over, its preferable to listening to away fans taking the piss for even longer.  I stuck it out till 85 minutes, earliest I've left since last time we played them here!

Agree with that.  For me 2 factors in whether a game is attractive enough to watch, is 1. does the stadium/fanbase create a decent atmosphere (yes to Leeds, Forest, Villa, big no to Bournemouth and Brentford)  2. is there pressure on a relatively large club/fanbase that adds an edge to it?  I can't get up for a Brentford game unless they are playing a team that is going to be under pressure for losing to them eg Everton, Man U and if the big team are winning it gets switched off.

Brighton have a decent fan base/stadium/atmosphere and an entertaining watch so normally a yes from me, if the opposition is half decent.

Agree with that, happy to watch Burnley losing but they are very small time/uninteresting.  Average size of clubs in Prem now is a turn off, but I still enjoy the likes of Spurs v Arsenal and some of the bigger games, just a pity we know who's going to win the league from day one.

it's still the strongest easily

most represented by a mile at the world cup

and over the last few seasons english teams performing the best overall in Europe I'd say

course there is some shite in there

but then again

Cagliari v Salernitana

Almeria v Granada

Augsburg v Darmstadt

Lorient v Clermont Foot 63

no one is tuning into them

Strongest I agree with. That’s simply for the money.

I never thought I’d see the day people leave Roma or whoever for Bournemouth as a move up. It’s mental.

Enjoyment can be different though. For example I loved early 90s prem (mainly when we were in it) but it wasn’t the strongest.

I’m not mad on Spanish football but that derby was class last night. Some sight seeing people going mental in the stands at 11pm on a Sunday night. It was a Simeone masterclass at its best.

Other leagues are strengthening, enough to go round.

I've no idea what the atmosphere is like at Brentford, however I'd hazard a guess that when they're winning and it's a full house then it's pretty decent.

Similar at any ground, including ours.

We also need to remember that football clubs weren't created with any history nor fan base. They earn it.

That's precisely what these "smaller" teams are doing now.

Just like we did for a while under big Sam.

Its poor, not their fault, but its small time, think Reading, Wigan, Bournemouth as Prem teams, happy clappers when winning, dull when not.  Nothing wrong with that and we are relatively small in Prem terms, but TBH I would expect most neutrals to not watch us either, as much as they'd watch Arsenal or Spurs etc.  For me the difference is that if Bournemouth lose at home their fans are disappointed but will be over it by the time they are in the pub talking about which players they've just watched.  When "big" clubs lose at home they're angry and disgusted.  Just an impression, not saying I'm right.

I think you're doing them a massive disservice here. A smaller fanbase doesn't mean a less passionate fanbase.  If anything I'd say it's the opposite.

I know exactly what you mean, a Rochdale fan is just as passionate as a Spurs fan.  Its just that there aren't many of them (and I love lower league/non league football and grounds BTW).  But when Reading or Wigan are in the Prem, they have fans in the stadium that frankly don't even support them, so the atmosphere is watered down and slightly false.  The minute they vacate the prem, those hangers on turn their back.  I bumped into a very keen Leeds fan on holiday (great lad, about 30) and despite relegation he can't get a S/T because there's been a waiting list for years, currently 22k.  Fans at their games are desperate to be there and its reflected in the atmosphere.

I sound more bothered by this than I am!  It started as a passing thought, and as ever I don't expect anyone to have the same view.

Fair play to Norwich. Hardly any left and they sang well despite being 4 down at HT.

Spoke to couple after the game and they said they’d got used to heavy losses in the Prem and were enjoying being in Championship where they knew they had a chance of some measure of success more than staying up.
