I went to a Hamburg game last year. There must have been 100 of their fans with their backs to the game, just chanting and drinking. Barmy the lot of them.

Yeah and I get that, I've some mates who are Union Berlin home and away and I get loads of videos from in the stadium, flares giant flags etc but their chanting goes on regardless of events on the pitch and that's great in a way but when the main event of a football match happens (a goal) life just goes on, not much reaction because they're already going mental. Good but also shit haha

Genuine question because I dont have a clue about German football fixtures, but do they play Friday, Sat, Sun, Mon routinely?  I know for a fact I wouldnt get a season ticket if that was the case for Bolton.  I can put up with a few fixture changes a season, but if there were only 4 or 5 Saturday afternoon home games I wouldnt be committing to a S/T, especially as you dont know which will be rearranged.  The club wouldn't need the gate money anyway thanks to the TV deals so it would be easy to justify not going every week.

In Bundesliga 1 there is always one Friday Night game, one 18:30 Saturday game, two games on a Sunday. The others are all Saturday 15:30 kick-offs. The lower Leagues have more Friday games and earlier kick-offs on Saturday. Even some midweek games in the lower Leagues kick off quite early, like 18:00 etc.

In the big League you know when the Fixtures are first published which games are on Friday/Sunday etc. There isn't any bullshit like in the UK where all the Big Clubs are always on the Saturday evening or the Sunday. Yes, the Bayern - Doofmund game is normally a showcase, but even the Revier derby (Schalke 04 - Doofmund) is a Saturday 15:30 game most of the time.

As for Rudy's comment about just getting smashed in the Stands. Certainly some do as you can take your Beer to your seat. Most of the clubs now don't accept cash at the Kiosks either. You have a card that you load up at machines around the Grounds. You build up loyalty points from this aswell which go towards any merchandise you might buy in the club shop etc. One of my Schalke 04 shirts has got a microchip in the sleeve which works like the card so they just scan your sleeve with a RFID reader to make the payment.

TV hasn't affected anything over here. It's even really hard to get tickets for a lot of the 3rd tier clubs, especially ones like 1860 München since they moved out of the Allianz Arena and back to their old ground.

I admire the Germans efforts against commercialisation.

I really enjoy going to Hamburg games (I have a thing for shit teams that play in white it seems)

Stadium experience they are light years ahead of us, food/beer etc.

I still think we celebrate goals better. Can’t beat the spontaneous reactions and falling over the place.

I think I’m for removing the 3-5pm ban now as I think it’s that far gone it would make little difference. It may also make the clubs (ours especially) work a bit harder to put bums on seats. Hopefully if they remove it will keep the majority of games on sat 3pm. With a couple Sunday and one Monday, Personally I think Monday is overkill and could live with 2 or even 1 on Sunday but I appreciate I may be on my own there.
