Guest Blixa
I'm starting to like the idea of Gateshead away As long as we don't get space behind the goals. Might as well watch it from Bolton. As long as Southport are in the hat, the dream still lives on.

MalcolmW
I trained at Gateshead's stadium in 1964 during a holiday in the North East. And, strangely, I've been on Southport's ground in the 1950s - for a Sunday School gathering of some sort.
green genie
I went to Plymouth 2 seasons running -early/ mid 80's I think- both times on the coach setting off at Friday midnight from The Albion. Between the 2 trips.... there was a brawl with Preston fans on the services at about 3am, there was a bit of a stabbing in Plymouth, there was a half arsed escort back to the coaches with the police disappearing outside their "end" which resulted in brawling, a few coach windows got smashed which made it a long, draughty journey back, & the area near the front ( The Barbican ?? ) & it's pubs was very nice. An excellent away trip. Can't remember the matches. Last place you expect to find Argyle, 3rd round of the Cup. Must have been 83/4 & 84/5 as last one in 80's 85/6 was 4-1 on a Tuesday night when we were romping to promotion. Wasn't there but our keeper was injured in the 7-2 and hobbled around the centre circle to keep 11 on the pitch. Only game I've done at Burnden was the 3-1 in 92/3. You had cracking team outdoing Shilton's fledgling nearly men. Had they not been beat by Burnley in play offs in 93/4 our recent history would have been very different
Take Hunt Off
I remember Whatmore's goal against Plymouth & it was better than Franks because he had more to do ....as I recall defender up his jacksie on Burnden Paddock side back to goal flicked ball over defenders head ran around him , still a good 30 yards from goal slipped a late challenge rounded the keeper (JBstyle) & passed it in the net ....one of best goals seen at Burnden but heyho

As long as Southport are in the hat, the dream still lives on. Away fans generally get one of the touch line stands though even then they're not exactly close to the pitch. Been to Southport's ground at least a dozen times but Dover could be interesting, might as well be a Euro away!
tomski
I have been to Dover. We will get 1600 if we get them. Calais then last ferry to the match????

Take Hunt Off
On reflection I think Whatmore did as you said & not as my flawed recollection , however cracking goal from a player who was never over popular with the glass half empty brigade. Leyther_Matt
Lets hope Worcester can do Skunny in their replay and we get them Wouldn't mind Scunny away to be fair. In fact, by my reckoning we've never played them at Glanford Park and they moved there in 1988! Worcester's old ground was a belter. They share with Kidderminster these days. itdiddidit?
met whatmore few years ago when he turned up to let me into an empty building in Sheffield that I was pricing a job at. think it was a property management company then he was working for. he said he'd been offered some corporate meet and greet work at the ground but it was a bit far from Sheffield. he wasn't very complimentary about megson's brand of footy.
