Can someone explain what Reeves has done wrong ?

Tried to be Chancellor, she thought she could be head honcho she didn't realise that the boss has to look at the information, analyse and make a plan... see it, say it, sort it.

Her spreadsheets weren't working out owing to the fact we're all not working hard enough, and she panicked and called a very, very unusual press conference telling everyone to prepare for a taxation rogering.

What she didnt figure out is the financial report already on her desk telling her tax receipts were better than expected meant the increase in direct taxes would be unnecessary and as result she is now looking bit of a fool.

Basic stuff, but she couldn't see the wood for the trees... not enough to resign, but it is another sign that she is in over her head. Head of OBR went today, which should help her in deflecting attention.

So the economy is, in fact, not in the shit shape reform voters wish it was?

Good news.

Never fucking happy

Things are looking up.

Keir is getting on with making Trump his bitch, there’s a bit more money about, and the retards on Twitter are still looking at 4 years of growing ulcers from all the rage.

seasons greetings 🥰

Zero tariff deal agreed by Sir Keir with the US for pharmaceuticals.

Just getting on with shit again. Dull cunt

Tbh I’m not exactly convinced that this is necessarily a ‘good thing’ unless focussing purely on exports which is ‘good’ obviously

In fairness the US massively overpays for prescription drugs thanks to their health system so it’s actually a surprise that he’s agreed to it as they (in very,  eye simple terms) allow the rest of the world to pay a lot less for theirs

This is actually quite a good summary of the situation

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn0k520v4xro.amp

There’s two big problems I foresee

1 The NHS will pay more for drugs and NICE will approve more new medicines. When staffing and services are in crisis due to lack of funding who will decide (and how) where the priorities are and where will this funding come from?

2 UK Pharma pay massive rebates on branded drugs (way more as a percentage than other countries) on top of other ‘taxes’, price reductions, etc. known as VPAS. Companies now are debranding some of their drugs to get out of this VPAS scheme as it’s unsustainable so that’s one source of income falling away

There’s so much more to unpick but it would take pages so I’ll leave it there

Its a win for Starmer, so well played, but I’m sceptical to say the least

Correct and with Starmers pharma 'win', they'll be rocketing up in the polls.

I think Johnson, who you described as the next Churchill, who himself had a bit of a shocker in 1945, could take that accolade

You also described Theresa May as the next Thatcher so it's fair to say your ability to judge a PM isn’t exactly a strong point

Oh I don't know. The next one will demonstrate astute judgement :D

Even firthicko knows deep down that Starmer is a dud and his Chancellor inept.

You don't need to challenge them, justsit back and watch them destroy themselves, all those years preparing and the lack of ability is astounding.

Problem is the long term damage while they are imploding.

Even some cabinet members are now saying on the quiet to journalists that Reeves/Starmer have misled folk and that they may be gone around the new year.

They are fucked.

They were fucked previously, but now they are double fucked, and will be out earlier.

Whether that means just a change of leadership, or a new election, who knows.

A new election would apparently see almost all of the cabinet lose their own seats, so maybe that is in the minds too.

We saw the Johnson government break down in chaos, but it did take some time.

This lot shot themselves in the foot within weeks.

You could say that about the electorate in general

Precisely.

Plus, they are backloading the "nasty bits" with the idea that they wouldn't actually come in, forcing the next government to make them immediately. Then they will start the usual diatribe in opposition. That is, of course assuming they will be the official opposition.

Greatest distortion of democracy in history

I don't think they actually lied or misled... they weren't "aware", which in my book is more worrying. All politicians lie but to be in charge of the nation's economy and flip flop around isn't a good look.

Except that the chancellor had been made aware.

But didn't reveal it.

the sad thing is, you might be right and they just continue to carry on furthering the mess that the tories started

for a long time no, no one seems to have had the ability

and then you have reform waiting in the wings to pick up the pieces

but I can only think they'd make it even worse

it's fucked

But she was aware and she did take action. They were clearly considering the need to increase income tax rates but the latest data changed their minds

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0mx3nv7zy8o.amp

The other thing people are saying is that the tax increases she made were not needed, the headroom in the budget is £20m. Last time she had £10m and was told that was not enough
