Winchester White Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 To be fair, the shuttle was a more difficult task and Saturn 5 bigger, but what is amazing is the fact this rocket is privately funded and massively reduces costs for future orbital missions. Quote
stevieb Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Watch it on silent because the whopping yanks make it unbearable otherwise. Quote
Cheese Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 (edited) There is now a Tesla car on its way to Mars. Shame they lost the main rocket, but fuck me what an achievement. Mind-blowing. This animation is good if you're not quite sure what they were trying to do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tk338VXcb24 Edited February 6, 2018 by Cheese Quote
Mixu Posted February 6, 2018 Author Posted February 6, 2018 Loads of good shit on heavy R .com Best watch that with the sound down aswell, no doubt. Quote
jmjhb Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Elon Musk does remind me of a Bond supervillian Quote

frank_spencer Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Why have they taken a Tesla with them? It's Elon Musk's own car and the answer, as is so often with Mr Musk, why the fuck not. Quote

Spider Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 I'm still expecting the Vulcans to land any minute. Quote
Cheese Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 do the rockets fly back to earth so they can keep them again? Yes. Well they make a controlled descent anyway. And they land on a floating platform in the middle of the ocean. It's mental. Quote
jimmyjoojar Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Yes. Well they make a controlled descent anyway. And they land on a floating platform in the middle of the ocean. It's mental. Well two of them landed nice and neatly yesterday, the other twatted into the sea at 500kph and disintegrated. Though i'm taking nothing away from what Musk has achieved here, its rather fucking amazing!! Quote
SatanGreavsie Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Brilliant bit on this one - fast forward to 25:20 in this when they start the music and then the fairing blows away (not shown on a lot of the other videos) to immediately reveal the earth under the car. Amazing stuff, to say the least! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCc16uozHVE Quote

Winchester White Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 That is even more impressive than the launch, how they do that is bloody brilliant. Nasa must be wondering what the point is of their rather expensive SLS programme now! Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 do the rockets fly back to earth so they can keep them again? and surely Life On Mars would've been a better song to have on loop on the car stereo As was pointed out on one bulletin, there's absolutely no point in playing music. There's no atmosphere so no matter to transmit sound waves; so nothing to hear. Top effort though. Quote
kent_white Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wKD-SH6Nkc Like the sea landing one - this blows me away every time I watch it! Quote
