Hmmm

Why do I get the feeling all this is playing perfectly into Putin's hands?

He will not be allowed to lose a battle of any sorts against the West in the eyes of his people, so will need to raise the stakes.

They're also severely pissed off this happened on the same day 63 Russians died in a fire.

Keep poking the Bear, see what happens.

I think you may over rate the Russians slightly. They won't do anything. Edited by tomski

They'll respond somehow.

Not sure it will be too strong.

Watched stuff about this on Chanel 4 last night. Actually getting quite tasty in Syria; some Russian irregulars attacked an american base and a retaliatory strike was undertaken.

America has also threatened to take military action if Assad keeps using chemical weapons.

Ultimately Putin continuing his nationalistic/hiding the truth over his thieving tendencies will start getting questioned by his people if all and sundry are standing up against his aggression.

Get after his cronies wealth and really hurt him.

Did I not read on here it takes about ten years for a wind turbine to pay the cost of building the fucker.

probably, but then I'm guessing it takes a huge amount of time for oil rigs and the various pipelines they need to pay back as well

The issue I see with the wind turbines, and there are 9 massive ones perched at the edge of my village (these fucking monstrosities should be stuck up north and in the sea, not down here in the Royal Shires) - anyway, half the time they aren't moving at all due to no breeze/wind, and believe it or not, if it's too windy, they have to turn them off as well.

I've noticed around here, whilst on my travels, huge amounts of Solar farms springing up, especially around Cambridge. The cost of setting them up must be astronomical, and they also require shit loads of maintenance as well

Pretty impressed with May in all this. I didn't think she had it in her.

Bit of backbone like this sways voters.

She is a cold fish with no smalltalk. Whatsoever.

But she is a really good negotiator. What she is now embarked on is a very demanding balancing act on several fronts.

Fair enough, that would explain it. It's still bonkers though that we don't have the storage capacity so that we can harness the energy when it's blowing a bit of a storm up

i feel sorry for her

shes going to be judged on how she deals with the utterly ridiculous brexit

she will go down as a massive failure whatever else she does

You're not wrong, it also doesn't help that she always looks really awkward. I'm surprised that she's not been shown how to stand or walk properly by one of these body language experts....unless they've tried and given up on her

As Casino says above, I've got a certain amount of sympathy for her, as ultimately she will be judged on Brexit, and I doubt history will be kind to her, because no matter which way you cut it, we'll be getting shafted by the EU one way or another. She'll eventually be lambasted by the leave mob, and lambasted by the remain mob, of that I have no doubt.

Only way she was getting the gig.

May has done very little wrong.

Whoever took on Brexit was in a no win situation.

She's played a blinder getting so many countries onside regarding the Salisbury attack.

In all fairness, she's played this situation very well so far. I am intrigued to see how it will all play out, as I'd imagine that Putin isn't best pleased at the expulsion of it's diplomats from, I believe, 26 nations.

I'd have thought there will be a huge round of "tit for tat" expulsions

What happens in the World Cup though, if Russia were to chuck out all our embassy staff? Could, or indeed would fans be allowed to travel there, if there is no sort of embassy assistance on offer?

If they just leave a load of plastic furniture outside the embassy, our fans will be fine.

Been very impressed with the statesman/woman like way like she has approached things.

It's been encouraging to see our allies rally around - particularly the EU who could have chosen to royally fuck us over....

There are diplomats who are diplomats and "diplomats" who are not.

By separating 23 out of 58 UK has indicated a fair knowledge of who's who.

Russia's immediate retaliation was an equal number chosen because it is equal and taking little or no account of what they were doing. Maybe some are spies but many definitely aren't.

Closing the consulate in St Petersburg will help prevent anyone chasing up former contacts of Putin who may have become disillusioned. And closing the British Council office will hurt them at least as much as us.

This guy who has just been got at had the nerve (swidt?) to write to Putin several years ago, asking for permission to visit family in Russia. He pointed out that he was a traitor to the old Soviet Union, not the new Russia.

The Kremlin says the letter was not received.

Since then his wife has died (of cancer, and that is quite possibly true), his brother has died, his son has died (of liver failure at 43).

Now his daughter and he have both suffered an agonising attack which is likely to be fatal and is certainly life-changing.

The World Cup will give Putin some opportunities. Four matches are to be played in the Kaliningrad exclave. If English or other supporters complain about the difficulty in getting a train through Lithuania, he could justify invasion. That may have been an original option, but (probably) not now.

If by chance any English supporters are arrested they will be behind bars longer than Michael Shields was.

Russia finally getting some sort of comeuppance after years of bully boy tactics. They set out to send a message with all this Salisbury shit but underestimated the international response to it. It's good to see but more should be done in my view. They will, in their own good time, construct some sort of nasty business and try to pin it on us. Mark my words.

I would have agreed to an extent at one time. However she's now shown a touch of class which her counterpart could only dream of.

Not everyone will have their minds made up because of the brexit vote either; whether remainders or leavers, plenty of fair minded folk will judge on deals achieved and performance over the term of this parliament.
