Listened to an expert a while back who explained that he's essentially a dead man walking; as soon as his grip on power slips a little then there are so many enemies waiting to take him down he'll be done for. An internal overthrow is needed. Just might have to wait until Assad has got his full control of Syria back first. Quote

Almost daily sending planes either to our coast to be intercepted or doing mock attack runs on NATO ships and radars in Scandinavia. Testing a lot of new stuff out in Syria, developing these new weapons Putin was on about. I do think Tomski is right though, the risks are too high to provoke anything more than political bickering. Putin is just asserting Russia's place in a world where the USA being the only superpower isn't so certain anymore. There is always the risk that it only takes one over-reaction from someone on either side in one of these ships or planes crowded over Syria or around the Baltic etc to be daft and pull a trigger though...
