Guest Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 (edited) They are boycotting this year's WC by failing to qualify. No they are not. They're one of the favourites to win it. Edited March 19, 2018 by bwfcfan5 Quote

birch-chorley Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 I'm lost Is Robinson from the USA? Did they qualify for the WC? I thought they missed out to Panama Quote

jules_darby Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Not far off the mark there. Robinson could do very well in a side playing wing backs or, as in Alonso’s case, as a left back in a side that doesn’t do much defending.Chalk and cheese Anyone with half a football brain could see that Alonso had great ability (see Cassie’s criticism as an example) Question mark was his pace. Occasionally positioning (experience dictated perhaps) The last point is the only one I’d attribute towards Robinson; he’s just an athlete In this day an age it could get him through, but he doesn’t look to have anywhere near the same amount of potential that Alonso had Quote

Alonso had/has a great first touch, great left foot, could pass and put in a great cross. Pace and defensive side was lacking but he's no doubt improved the latter. Robinson will never be as good a footballer but as running about a lot/statistics seems to be one of the major requirements these days no doubt he will do well. I think he's been very good for us though at Championship level and did brilliantly when he came on on Saturday. Quote
famouswanderer Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Id honestly be surprised if he played anywhere near the majority of his career at this level or higher. Im not knocking the lad, he gives his all and seems to have a great attitude. He will keep having a go even after losing the ball constantly,.his head doesnt drop. Just dont think hes a good enough footballer. He may well prove me wrong, and good luck to the lad if he does. Quote
Eddie Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Some big ‘criticism’ here for a lad that is playing his 1st ever season of 1st team football. I can understand people thinking he’s not that great at the moment, I still think he shows moments of being very good and fairly poor within each match, but there’s surely no doubt that he’s improved a lot over the season? As for people saying he’s just an athlete, most people said that about Kyle Walker for the 1st 5 years of his career, me included, but look at him now (and that’s not me comparing the 2, it’s just a point to note that Walker has moved from just being an athlete to possibly one of the best right backs/wing backs in the world). I’m not massively fussed either way but if we did have a chance to get him for either free or a small fee I think he’d be a solid addition that has potential to become a decent player that could command a half decent fee for us in the future. As for Burke - he’s a class act and I would snap West Ham’s hands off if we could afford to buy him in the summer. I’d be very happy if him and Wheater were our centre back partnership next year. Zico Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 for the record, I rate Robinson and would happily keep him on next season especially for the games when Parky fancies wing backs Quote
frank_spencer Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 I'd jump at the chance to sign Burke and Robinson. They are exactly the kind of players we need to be signing. Quote
Walkden White Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 I'd jump at the chance to sign Burke and Robinson. They are exactly the kind of players we need to be signing. Agree. Think Robinson has been great for us. Burke reminds me a little of Holding but I would say has the potential to be better. Think West Ham realise this so wouldn't expect us to be able to sign him permanently. Quote
jules_darby Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 I’m also in the pro-Burke camp Not sold on Beevers at this level at all though can’t fault his effort. Same with Dervite Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 I agree with Frank 100% Me too. Both these players are looking better; as is the whole team. Its a bit harsh calling them shite (especially Robinson) as early doors everyone was poor and the results confirmed this. Team has grown into the league as have the players. Fwiw, away from home I'd be happy to see Taylor at full back with Robinson in front of him (as a 4-5-1). More pace and cover for defending and the occasional counter attack. Quote

Eddie Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 (edited) Same with Wheater I personally think Wheater is a cut above Beevers and Dervite, I know he’s just as slow and that can let him down but his positioning is generally 1st class. I agree with Jules on Beevers, can’t fault him for effort but I think he’s a decent league 1 defender who can just about do a job in this league. Burke could learn a lot from playing next to Wheater for a full season and I think Burke would help Wheater out with having more pace and a better ability on the ball. He’d have to get comfortable playing as the left centre back though. Edited March 19, 2018 by Eddie Quote
marple whites Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Like Burke a lot and would choose wheater ahead of beevers any day. Those 2 at the back, with Henry in front of them, is a good start to building a very solid team. Quote
gonzo Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 11th in the form league since the transfer window Quote

Never overly sold on issues between left and right centre half....depends on set up and tactics. Sometimes it’s man marking, sometimes as a 3, sometimes tactics are that the fullbacks pull in and take the 2nd forward and a centre half is always left free; that again doesn’t leave them set left/right....if he’s never done it mind..... I reckon it’s all moot though; can’t see us getting him sadly Quote
Mounts Kipper Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 I think Wheaters lack of pace is the reason Beevers selected ahead of him especially with Taylor lacking pace that would mean we’d be exposed to teams with quick strikers if Wheater was selected, especially if we’re going with a back 4.
