There is more to the story, but can't say at the moment. It's a shocker. Quote

Big E Posted November 19 Posted November 19 Men do need to talk but also people need to stop being such cunts to folk. Look at the witch hunt over that ref yet folk are supposed to #bekind people less likely to talk in the horrible environment that is the modern world Quote

Supposedly a more understanding, accepting society, yet one that is more aggressive. We will all have our thoughts behind why, but that's not for here. As an aside, it's international men's day today. Quote

Or is it just folk spouting off online, most of which he'll probably not even see or read? Anyway, if he needs to talk so long as it's to a mate or professional as opposed to doing it online then he'll do ok by it Quote
bwfcfan5 Posted November 19 Posted November 19 I don’t really discuss this stuff much but seeing as this thread is here….does anyone else suffer from bouts of quite severe existential dread? I’ve had about a month now of this feeling that came out of the blue and isn’t linked to anything. Went to the GP just to check it wasn’t linked to anything physical but all was clear. They said it’s likely anxiety but I don’t have typical anxiety and I get these ‘moods’ out of the blue. This time it seems worse than others that usually last a week or so. Can’t really explain it other than feeling constantly unsettled and anxious for no reason that I can put my finger on. Not affecting sleep or owt so it’s just unpleasant. Quote

Especially this time of year. I get this weird feeling like something terrible is going to happen. Not quite as bad this year as last year - but it's still there in the background! Quote
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted November 19 Site Supporter Posted November 19 Seasonal affective disorder. Absolutely no doubt in my mind. Reading an article about Monty Don, and how badly he is affected each year. Weirdly (or not) since I've been settled on an epilepsy medication that works, it has barely been there this time. The odd day maybe. I have more energy, less inclination to comfort eat, and now managing to lose weight, despite the medication itself having the effect of making it easier to gain weight. Just being in a better frame of mind means I can be a bit more focused, clearer of head, and more active all round. Just as well really, given the amount of leaves that have fallen this season. Quote

Yeah I thought SAD but I’ve had smaller bouts of this in summer. I’ve tried a lamp - I’m just not convinced it is that entirely. Glad to hear others have same thing though. It’s such a weird thing to go to sleep one night then wake up with a feeling that won’t shift. Quote

It’s such a weird thing to go to sleep one night then wake up with a feeling that won’t shift. As in the article- it can have knock on effects. I often refer to it as a touch of the Septembers. That's typically when it starts, but then you start to expect it, get concerned about it, and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. There may be additional stress related triggers that set it off initially, or an event that occurs unexpectedly, as a one off, that again brings it on at a different time. It's stll a touch of anxiety that can lead onto depression. Remember in the summer, we get vitamin D boost, are more active and sociable etc, that typically allows us to "get over" stresses etc quicker. Therefore, even if something creeps up on you for a day or so, you're in a better position to rationalise and cope with it. Not necessarily the same in winter. Thats why it's all the more vital to get the fuck out and do something fruitful outside, even if the weather is a bit biz. Even in winter, light levels may still be higher outdoors than inside. Plus it is of a frequency more beneficial than that of artificial light inside. Of course you can get "daylight" type bulbs in your fittings, but then if you use them in the evening, before you retire, then they can have the effect of delaying the onset of the natural sleep rhythm. Sounds like your under the vast umbrella that is anxiety. Loads of variations of it. Get your serotonin boosted pronto. Exercise, get out for some big fuck fresh air walks, go swimming, go gym, anything to get that heart pumping and boost your levels. Eat decent foods rich in tryptophan. Fruit, meat, veg, etc etc. And get on the probiotics. Massive studies have gone in to a lot of life's problems including serotonin depletion starting in the gut. Quote

Yep. Get out of the house. Don’t have to be a gym bunny to get exercise and fresh air. Boosts all sorts of levels. Even away from the summer months you’re soaking up some Vitamin D Quote

London Wanderer Posted November 19 Posted November 19 Probiotics are well researched. Try it for a couple of weeks & you definitely the difference imo. Kefir yogurt does the trick for me, have it with oats & fruit in the morning. High in protein as well. Plenty other options but I get bored after a mouthful of sauerkraut. Usually get the SAD come November. But been working outside 5 days a week, starting at 9. That morning light is making a big difference. Quote
