I basically had to pester him to go to docs. He went yesterday morning and was sent straight to The Vic. He was there in A&E from 11am till half 9 last night. I was there with him from tea time. It was like fucking Beirut. Ambulances stacked up outside basically being used as holding pens. Wankers kicking off all over the gaff and poor nurses at their wits end. My old man was after leaving but luckily I made him stay. They let him go after a CT scan but today he had to go the TIA clinic where the consultant has gone bonkers that they didn't keep him in and put him on a ward... There was nowhere to put him. Some lass we were talking to had been waiting for a bed for 30 hours 😳 Absolute carnage and only on a Monday. Place was littered with folk who had fuck all wrong with em. Christ And on a Monday. Could have been bad, glad to hear he’s okay. Quote

Nurse was telling us about a lass who'd stubbed her toe waiting for hours When I was a kid you'd have to be actually on fire to even think about going to A&E. If they charged you for going in there would be half the people there. It's just a day out for some. Quote

So when we visit a patient and get no access, we can see on our system if they are in A&E waiting to be seen. A good 60% of the patients are either drug or drink related and usually repeat offenders. It’s sad. I’ve just done an essay on comparing the health needs of Blackpool and East Cheshire. Most of the prominent concerns came down to poverty and mental health issues, alcoholism and drug use stemming from them (Blondie, 2024). It’s so bloody shit. Oh and I smashed it with 68% 🤓(I’m still shit at referencing) Quote
gonzo Posted July 23, 2024 Posted July 23, 2024 Good effort Think Blackpool tops the list nationwide for suicide, anti depressants, drug use, poverty and crime. And not a raygun in sight. #proud Quote

I'd be interested to have a read of it if you feel comfortable sharing it? My job is all based around health inequalities Quote

Assumed he'd been ill with the big C or something. I would never have had an inkling about his issues, given his playing and coaching career. Having said that, I didn't with Speed neither. Terrible thing. Quote
Sweep Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 A friend of mine took her own life a few weeks ago. Her husband died of COVID a couple of years ago. There were no outward signs at all that she was struggling, in fact she was almost always the life and soul of any gathering. She hung herself. Only 51 years old. Its just horrible. It transpires, after her husband had died, the life insurance didn't pay out and she was spiralling into more and more debt,so that may have been what pushed her over the edge. She leaves a 12 years old son, who now doesn't have any parents, and who now has been packed off to live with his uncle, 50 miles away from all his friends, the poor chap. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Grim story. Obvious question- why didn't the insurance pay out? Seems bloody cruel. Quote

Apparently, Brian (the husband) didn't declare a pre-existing condition. He went in hospital with liver failure (I think) then COVID got to him, whilst in Lister Hospital. He'd always been a heavy drinker, and been told his liver was fucked, but he kept on drinking, and didn't advise his life insurance people. Michelle (the wife) knew nothing about his condition either. Apparently a few months before on a lads golfing holiday to Portugal, he'd collapsed and spent 2 or 3 days in hospital. He then swore all the lads who went to secrecy......hence Michele was none the wiser Edited August 12, 2024 by Sweep Quote

athywhite1958 Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 One of our mates did the same, walked in front of a train, he was originally the 97th Hillsborough victim, he gave his mate his ticket to the semi final who died there, the guilt was so much he killed himself Quote

Used to see them in the White Lion a lot, pre covid and their son and mine would play together. Latterly, would see Michelle at different scouting and football things and then in The Cock with another friend of mine. It was a genuine moment when you feel as though you had been punched in the chest when my daughter told me what had happened. I didn't know what had happened to the lad, he is a nice kid and my thoughts were obviously with him and what he must have been going through, but it is a little comforting to know he is with family, I hope he is well. No counselling or discussions around it, thank goodness times have changed Quote

Sad times mate, sad times indeed. 😢 Oliver is doing OK (as well as can be expected) so I understand. The "Gofundme" set up for him, for us future, is currently at over £23K,which hopefully can give him a bit of a start, once he's old enough to go to college/uni or whatever. Quote
