Escobarp
I was out for a few pints this afternoon. Pub was quiet and well controlled. Missus has been out. Place she was in (up market £5 plus a pint gaff) had 20 lads in congregated round 2 tables. No masks all back and forth to the bogs. Had to shut at 6 as that’s it done here locked down. Refused to leave. As my missus and her mate walked out the bar staff had just called the police. At which point the lads just cheered and started banging on the tables knocking glasses off and being dicks. this is why we are under these measures and why we’re heading for worse. Because part of our wonderful population are Neanderthal fuckwits who don’t give a fuck.

Reminds of when it first started when Spain went into lockdown, the local police dragging an English girl out of the outdoor pool.

Numbers show they do work given time, but have an associated cost. One thing that seems to come to the fore when looking at many countries, is that those that adopt a tougher strategy from the off, and attach punitive measures seem to have kept a lid on it more. Saw a piece about the ladies in the Finnish government. No fucking about, initiated their civil contingencies act thing and took it from there. It even gives them the power to take over people's wages, but they didn't need to go that far in the end. Mounts would be leading a revolution! fatty
Pissed ramblings here and no reason to post this but was chatting to a down to earth well rounded surgeon I know the other day who has been doing his bit on the front line on the wards. On being asked “how bad is it” he said fucking dreadfully horrible if you get it bad and you don’t want it - horrible way to go etc. But then said not worth fucking the country up for either in his view. I don’t envy those having to make decisions - it’s a new thing we’ve been facing and decisions have to be made rightly the wrongly. But the decision makers have to contend with a significant proportion of the population being non-compliant and base some of their judgements on an assumption that a portion will do as they’re told but a cluster of pricks will be such and fuck it up for everyone else. I’m getting really at the end of my tether with it all as are all of us I’m sure. anyway I’ll shut up and pour another glass of wine as there was no real point in my post ! I’d say your post was bang on point mate. It’s a genuine nightmare getting the balance right. Your surgeon mate is one of this years heroes. I know he’s doing his job but it’s risky. Beer works. Tombwfc
Lockdowns absolutely do work. It's the 'do something different' bit we haven't cracked (opening back up, tier systems) and lead us back to the last resort.

Site Supporter Winchester White Posted December 18, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted December 18, 2020 We should have done it right from the fucking start. Even in April folk were on about a 2nd peak but no they were dismissed as project fear. If we had hit it hard from the off, numbers would have been low enough to get test and trace on top of the lower numbers. We could then contain from therein with lesser restrictions. However, we thought we had it sorted and then opened up too quickly and it all went to shit. Eat out to help out ffs, utter madness. So, now we have a new strain that is even better and has run rampant through tier 2 London, expect rates to rocket this week. Fucks sake. We have been utterly shit as a country/society/government at this.
