Spider Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Is it right that they’ve extended furlough until April now?? Quote

I'd read a few months ago that the Nightingales were being used for outpatient appointments and not Covid patients. The reason being that there was more space available which meant they could get through the backlog quicker i.e. see a patient in one area and then see a second patient in another area while the first area was cleaned down. As wank as all this is, you have a point. I wonder if there is a sixth test they use when deciding tiers, and that involves reading social media posts and judging adherence. Just drove through cheetham Hill and strange ways again. Large groups congregating in door ways. Coffee shop open with people sitting inside- its no wonder so many places are heading into tier 3. One thing I think would be worth doing, is the media separating the first wave death numbers from the second. Most people just see the big number and assume they were all ages ago. On October 10th we were at 43,000 deaths. That's 23,000 in two months. Quote

I'm not so sure about that. Supermarkets often have high ceilings, ventilation and visits relatively short. Biggest danger I would imagine is in touching surfaces there, and use of gel will help. Pubs, tend to be lower volume spaces, and folk will be in there for a while- you'd imagine breathing in contaminated air is the biggest issue here- like the bottom bull. Can't stop folk from buying food, so something ends up being sacrificed. Quote
birch-chorley Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Aye, wouldn’t make a lot of sense starving 60m to death in order to save 500k from dying of Covid Quote

Predominantly high affluence families, and both high / low affluence post families Problem is it costs a fortune to service, prices will need to increase to cover it long term Quote

I see sainsbury's are closing butchery counters- presumably customer habits are changing fairly rapidly. Anyway, with collecting shopping for multiple households for 9 months now, we've built up a shed load of nectar points- every cloud... Quote

More testing = more positive Deaths are with it not of it; larger picture not showing drastic changes from 2019 Very generic points but worth considering before we even consider the negative net effects of ongoing restrictions that will fuck over a lot of people and services from 2021 for years. I’m v passionate about this but nothing from a self-centred position; we’re doing really well, but I’m super concerned for many others Quote

A lot of the counters have gone to save costs the only way internet grocery shopping can become more profitable is if you have dark stores (for .com customers only, no walk ins) with automation doing large parts of it Paying someone to go round picking peoples shopping for the customers is expensive Quote

Only time will tell I suppose as to where habits will lead. Quote

Possibly sushi daily? asda are slowly doing the same and it will become a common theme of “food to go” replacing the deli counters. Quote
