Already they've extended furlough out to April I think. I don't see how they can offer "better support" for parents - it may be, and I know it's not practical in every instance, but they could possibly just have to take their entire holiday allocation for the year in January, or have their bosses at work allow them to be a bit more flexible with their work, and allow them to work maybe 7 days a week with reduced hours each day (I appreciate this can't be done for everybody) - if we're locking down fully, then all retail (apart from supermarkets) closes down and all manufacturing closes down, nobody leaving their house for a full month, with the exception of allocated time slots for shopping or 1/2 hour exercise each day. We can do it and get through it As for lay offs, sadly, there is already a tsunami of them about to hit us in 3 or 4 months time, there's not much we can do about that now sadly. That shitstorm really hasn't even begun as of yet Quote

I do think though that they won't allow schools to re-open until we reach a certain level of vaccinations. I'd be surprised to see school kids back before February. The next call, with regards to tiering and lockdowns, by the Government is possibly going to be the most critical call they've made, as we're standing on the edge now economically.....as are most of our neighbours as well, this isn't just a UK issue, so we shouldn't forget that. Even if we fully locked down and eradicated it from these shores, if every other fucker has got it running riot, that still doesn't do us any good in reality, as our economy would still be stuffed Quote

It's total dogshit at the best of times. If you're abroad, get home or stay abroad. Shut everything except absolute essentials. Once it's done (3 or 4 weeks), mass testing, no exceptions. Anyone with it fully contact traced and put into a fucking sports hall for 10 days if needs be. It's got to be harsh. If we lose some civil liberties, cry on Twitter about it before realising we lost them a year ago anyway. Conspiracy nuts and doubters? I'd have them sent to camps to think about things. Quote

Not in Crawley Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 Just do tier 4 until Easter and we're rolling out more of the jabs. Schools to go back later after xmas, maybe home schooling until feb half term in the worst hit areas. Uni's only have online teaching until first reading week. Start reopening properly social distanced places after this time - non essential shops, certain lesuire and cultural places, cafes Keep pubs closed - none of this with a meal bollocks unti Easter. ErnestTurnip Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 Do we reckon those in power have a plan B for if this can't be beaten and is always going to be a threat or are we just going to keep on pressing pause and thinking we'll get there one day? Quote

We should be able to have a firm lockdown until the most vulnerable are vaccinated, which hopefully will ease the pressure on the NHS, and that should hopefully happen before the end of March - as for vaccinating everybody, that's going to take months and months. It'll be this time next year before everybody in the UK gets vaccinated. Quote

It can be beaten, but it takes very, very extreme measures - it depends if we and the rest of the world are prepared to do it though. As I mentioned earlier, even if we get rid of in in the UK, so what, if it's still running around the rest of the world, then it still fucks us over Quote
