There was a future Premier League player and several upper/middle Championship players in that League One team of 2016. It got a run of wins under its belt just before Johnson left, and Heckingbottom did really well in making sure that standards did not slip. So, yeah, it's fair to say that when he had good players, the team played good football (including after promotion) and when he didn't, it didn't. I understand the whining and the frustration from him, because there were - by our standards - some bloody good players who were sold. As a fan, though, I didn't want to hear it alllllllllllllll the timeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. When he left for Leeds, I didn't know how good a manager he was, precisely because of my third paragraph. His win-percentages there and at Hibs suggest that he - like my club - never recovered from that fire-sale. It may all be irrelevant to Bolton fans now, anyway, if he goes to them horrible rape-threatening, elbowing thundercunts down the road. (Leeds, followed by that lot! Talk about burning your fucking bridges!) If that's the case, I'll disappear until you're linked with someone else we've had, and then I'll give you my thoughts for better or for worse. Good luck! Cheers mate thanks for the info

They will still have to agree to his resignation and they aren’t going to do that if he’s heavily linked with us. Plus there will be a provision for this in his contract. Some sort of anti competition clause. Otherwise why does anyone ever pay compo for a manager?

It's a lot of money to release an up until now non league manager to a 4th division club but maybe there'll be some compromise as the Inglorious Basterd above suggests. I wonder what Plymouth would have been asking for Lowe.

Games moved on a fair bit in terms of sophistication since then. How many legal cases were kicking around the game at that time? I go back to my initial point why doesn’t everyone do that? Why pay compo?

Escobarp
I think we all know it’s going to be him subject to the financials of the deal possibly. Good statement of intent from The club if we get him.

Good statement of intent from The club if we get him. Agree Its not just about paying the compensation for him - its satisfying him personally that once the club is stabilised and we come out of the embargo, monies will be available to invest going forward, and that FV aspirations and medium term vision match his own. From Evatts point of view , were he to stay at Barrow , there is every chance they could realistically challenge for promotion this coming season - with a bit of strengthening ( seem to recall 1/3 of clubs coming out of the National League into League two have gone straight up to League One ) Were he to do that - he then becomes a very wanted man and he knows that Edited June 24, 2020 by Benny The Ball
Leyther_Matt
Had a message from a well-informed Barrow fan that I know and he said they’re pretty insistent on the compensation being paid up front. Told him they’re in for a rude awakening if they think that’s how it works in League Two. Even Salford would think twice about paying that in a lump sum rather than instalments even at the best of times, never mind when nobody has had any cash flow for months. I think it’s probably fair to assume that we’ve already spoken to him (on the QT) and he’s happy to join us pending a compo agreement with Barrow. Once he tells Barrow of his desire to join us the compo will probably come down in value!
