My lad and his g/f are currently in Thailand and will need to self isolate on return until they get the results of a PCR test. As I’ll be picking them up from T2 am I then at risk?

They’ve not made it too clear.

Pay for an uber for them then it's not your problem.

OK then, same question but for the Uber driver.

My point is that in order to self isolate, they need to get home. Getting home will almost certainly put them in contact with someone

Right OK. I thought about it. I'm a dick. I should have put one on.

(It's very rare I admit I was wrong)

Soz.

Didn't you get the memo??  Nobody is allowed to admit they are wrong about anything on here.  You need to stick to your guns regardless.

:D

Probably true.

But again you miss the point. Folk were largely fucking them off any way, as during the summer, cases were relatively low and hospitalisations manageable.

If a rule is pushed too far, then it's hard to get it to stick upon reintroduction. Societies differ, and it appears we have one less compliant than many. Blame folk as much as authorities.

You once again ignore the suggestion that has been made, that by easing restrictions and getting jabs done early, then large spikes that might be seem in the winter won't occur to the same extent.

This is now being borne out in Europe, and underlines the need for boosters here.

So you don't consider cases going from very low number in the summer in the UK to 40,000 a day after Freedom Day a large spike.

40k cases a day of delta and we were just cracking on

14 cases of omicron and we're all flapping and bringing back restrictions because the news said so

Clown. World.

got to take into consideration  the rate it’s mutating and how transmissible it is. Not to mention the pressure it will put on the NHS in the toughest months for them if they don’t get on top of it asap

It's because we don't know yet how severe it is and if it evades vaccines.

Come on lad, it's not that difficult to understand.

No reported cases of the new variant in hospitals in South Africa.

That maybe so.

But they've still not had the time to investigate fully.

Let's just chill out a wee bit. It's really not difficult.

Fucking hell

Chances are it's something and nothing and could be brilliant news

However, it could, however unlikely, be really shit

To mitigate the risk, you wear a mask in shops and on trains for a few weeks

Fwiw, if they really are worried, the precautions don't go nearly far enough

I remember going to Manchester Royal Infirmary in March 2020 just before COVID hit us I was watching folk (probably students) near the University wearing masks and thinking "fucking idiots, how stupid do they look", how times change

This.

Think we're coming at from different angles.

You've been advocating masks and lock downs from your sun lounger and all day full English since day one.

I've been saying crack on regardless

So now your agreeing with me, fair enough.

No, definitely not, I'm saying it's a massive over reaction in the media for 14 cases.

I'm saying crack on.

You've got jabs if you want em. Nhs isn't getting over run. Mutations generally get more transmissible and less deadly as we progress...

Doesn't sell papers to pensioners though so they will whip up any frenzy they can to fill the airwaves.

Ask people who work in the NHS if they feel that’s it’s been over run most of them are struggling mentally or physically or both it’s something most people don’t think about but is a massive problem.
