He's brilliant, as they all are. Aggers, Tuffers, Vaughan, and Guha. Maxwell and Aggers stand out for me as they can address issues and offer comment/criticism without being offensive, derogatory etc. No need for sensationalism that the likes of Keane bring to football. Offering opinion is their job and they do so with respect to everyone.

FWIW he makes some very valid points. But I reckon Stokes and McCullum know what they are doing.
Site Supporter Alf Hartigan Posted July 31, 2023 Site Supporter Share Posted July 31, 2023 What a series that was. I know the purists will say that Australia still retained the Ashes, but fucking hell, that was something else.

But incredible work, in progress. I’m still devastated about Manchester. I sulked for days afterwards when there was very little play on the Saturday and none on the Sunday. Felt like all of that emotion from the previous 3 days was all for nothing. As for selection. We looked better with Woakes and Wood in the team, than Robinson and Pope - yet we lost both of those to injury. However, Jack Leach can’t bat at 3, so we have a dilemma in time. A few weeks ago I couldn’t believe Crawley was in the team. I thought Stokes was only in for his captaincy as he wasn’t getting any runs and couldn’t bowl. I also thought Bairstow needed resting mid series. I know fuck all.
Smiley
Going to have a huge void to fill these coming days and weeks. What a series!
Moderators Casino Posted July 31, 2023 Author Moderators Share Posted July 31, 2023 I reckon theres no way anderson does aus and wood is no spring chicken and his body is, at best, vulnerable Woakes is cannon fodder abroad Archer has to be in last chance saloon, so i reckon even with a following wind, we need at least 3 quicks to supplement archer and wood Not 82 mph trundlers, raw pace I dunno enough about the counties but id be surprised if test talent is hiding there with the poor standard it has become I suppose teague and the fella from last summer, so memorable ive forgotten him, robinson and overton are first 4 on the blocks, but none of them are wood/archer fast
Tombwfc
If you miss a sitter in the World Cup semi-final, it doesn't become ok if you score a hat-trick in the third placed playoff. Fair play to Bairstow, but you can't change that he cost England badly. Having said that, I'm not sure it works to have him and Stokes in the team as specialist batsmen, so I guess he has to play. Brilliant series though. Two excellent teams and I think 2-2 is a very fair reflection. Yeah it rained at OT, but England benefited from the weather in this test, had the better of the conditions generally, had pitches to suit and won four tosses. I think it all evens out. Just a shame they can't have a decider.

meanderson93
Stokes back in for ODIs, at the expense of Brook it seems. Don't follow the 1 day stuff all that much but looking at the squad, you could quite easily put an 11 together that essentially doesn't have a tail. Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted August 16, 2023 Site Supporter Share Posted August 16, 2023 Stokes' body seems permanently semi-crocked. Manages to still play but with impairments. Surprised he's not taking a break.
Smiley
How the fuck Harry Brook has missed out, I will never know. Who is Gus Atkinson? Have hardly watched any of The Hundred - but caught a bit of last night’s match, Brook had smashed 100 off 41 balls. He’s an animal with the bat. Has to be in the WC squad. Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted August 23, 2023 Site Supporter Share Posted August 23, 2023 Perhaps they felt it was important not to over burden him, as he's relatively new to international cricket. Clutching at straws a bit, but there must be some reason.
