Sweep
They're about to get a 30% sell on for the brentford fella They're also gonna sell out v huddersfield Aye, if they get £2m/£3m from that transfer, they may think it worth splashing say £500K on wages for 5 or 6 months on ALF. If it keeps them in the top 6, then anything could happen in the playoffs

Sweep
You me and casino know ALF ain't going to Rochdale. Agreed, I would be very surprised if he did - if nobody else wants him though, and he wants to play for the next few months, he might not have a lot of choice (although I doubt, even with the windfall they're expecting, that they would be in the market for paying a single player circa £10K per week) He's only made about 10 appearances for Wigan this year, and some of them are as sub, so he might not even be fully fit Edited January 10, 2017 by Sweep

Mounts Kipper
thats not worrying folk on here who think we should get him Warren Joyce paid credit to ALF yesterday praising his professionalism etc don't think fitness would be a problem, however is he the right type of player who will fit in our system? Only PP can make that call. I could see him having to play where ZC is playing at the moment if the systems stays as is.

With regards to Joyce's comments, I'm sure he would say that, if he's trying to offload him, he's not going to release to the press that he's a bone idle fat knacker. I can see ALF playing the ZC role, I'm not sure how both of them on the pitch at the same time could be accommodated without a system change/overhaul. And for the money ALF would cost, he wouldn't be sat on the bench just as a "plan B" Edited January 10, 2017 by Sweep
Anderson
There's a lot of people worrying about how he fits into a system and not wanting to disrupt things but I honestly don't think he'd even be on our radar if Parkinson wasn't sure on how to best utilise him to make us better or negate a flaw in our squad. I get it though, we've been through so many managers in succession that just throw shit at a wall and go with what sticks until eventually the wall falls down. The way I see it though is Phil has built the wall brick by brick and it's a bloody decent wall, so now he wants to hang a picture on it just to show off. gonzo
My only concern with ALF is that he's been pretty much shite at every club he's been at bar us and for a bit at Rochdale. Everywhere else he's struggled and ended up sat on the bench.

Site Supporter Ratwhite Posted January 10, 2017 Author Site Supporter Share Posted January 10, 2017 Fair comments but C Taylor does not do what Ameobi does. In fact he does nothing as he's bogwank As you see ALF, I see Ameobi doing stuff nobody else can - the way he holds the ball up, the way he gets them shitting it and doubling up, look at his goals too. When he's at his best he's unplayable and better than Clough IMO. Downside, he's not always produced and is inconsistent. ALF - I just can't see him starting for us, and I'm a big fan; but Ameobi would be first 11 for sure. The only thing that could change that is if Henry keeps on, but we've only really see him have 2 decent games so far. No right or wrong here I guess but for me it would still be Ameobi If we could only have one I think Well put.
Site Supporter Biggish Dave Posted January 10, 2017 Site Supporter Share Posted January 10, 2017 Part of our problem not having plan B is lack of experience where it matters. Most of our younger players have only ever played in struggling teams. ALF would at least bring a bit extra know-how to the ranks

Ani
Le Fondre has a French paternal grandfather, and is eligible for both England and France. He is a lifelong Manchester United fan and he cites his heroes as Eric Cantona and Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Debate over.
gonzo
He was very good at Rotherham and Reading as well, so pretty much the majority of his career He's far from prolific. Think he Scored 3 goals last season. About 8 the season before. Crap at wolves, binned at Cardiff and crap at Wigan. Don't get me wrong I think he'd be a good addition, but there's a reason league 1 teams will be sniffing round him.
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 10, 2017 Site Supporter Share Posted January 10, 2017 Can't help feeling that we perhaps could do with backup for Madine. He's not my favourite, but if that's how pp wants to play, and proctor's not up to it, then we could do with cover.

ianofcleveleys
Rochdale might be after a striker if they lose Henderson in the window, one or two in Champ reputed to be sniffing around, though even if they do get a wedge off Hogan deal can't see them blowing their wage structure on Alf. I think he'd do for us if he'd be happy in a sharing the workload situation with Clough, with one or the other starting (mostly Clough but not necessarily always), the other doing 25 mins and being likely to get goals that change games when defenders tire and spaces appear.
