They beat the supposed best southern, league one academy team, Luton 7-2 in the north south league final. Walked the league. Only lost 2 all season (of the final 3) when league sewn up and players rested. That's top of 43 CAT 3 teams from championship clubs down Played Blackburn cat 1 away in the cup, beat them. Played fleetwood cat 2 twice, won 1 drew 1. Beat wigan, crewe, drew with Burnley all supposed higher quality teams. Didn't lose a match to a higher ranked team. Not the same as the women, we are playing academy teams from lg 1 rivals and we were streets ahead, teams who will have future league professionals playing for them.

Many teams have their own version of Big Dave these days. Rotherham, Blackpool, Accrington Salford for example all have land of the giants up front. Dave is v effective at winning free kicks high up the pitch so whilst he can bully, he's also clever. I didn't see the tranmere match, but the report said their CB, a 29yr old with 370 appearances for port Vale, was grappling and pulling to try and contain him. Hopefully you'll get to see what I mean. He was great a drawing a foul near the area last season. But footballing wise there's Rice, a v fast direct and physically strong left winger, low centre of gravity and great at getting to the byline and crossing, smith a 6ft 2 powerful and skillful right back, lawrence is a wiley 10 who can finish and build up well. Theres some good quarterback style midfielders who will need to get bigger. Hogan is a v tough no nonsense centre back great in the air. And there's a few in the 18s who might get a sniff too. Good crop.
  4. Yep, did it last week, as some of you know, it's the strangest feeling

For what it’s worth chatting with a level headed roverrrr at work today on our new winger. His summary was he’s fast but light weight with no end product 1 goal in 22 apps. Nicknamed baby saka when at Arsenal (sickening). Fingers crossed a drop in division will help him, with and a couple of destroyers along side him to protect.

I try to remember stuff like this when i'm frustrated with players. Collins touch at times seems like that of an average amateur player, and used to drive me mad (mainly because it seemed like he didn't care - which may or may not be true). But the reality is, he would have been the best player on his school team, town team, academy team and, for his age, probably in the top 2 or 3 in his area / region. 3 people i know went on to play pro football (all retired now). The sacrifices they made and the dedication they had was unreal even from a young age. None of them were the most naturally gifted players (one went on to play for England), but it was the dedication that brought your odds in their favour. Fair play to anyone who makes it pro - almost always fully deserved for what they put into it

Nolan, Joey O'Brien and even VazTe went on to have ok careers at West Ham. More recently Politic is now at the top Romanian team. Luca Connell would walk into our side. There has definitely been talent there over the years but through lack of trust in the precarious situations we've been in they never got their chances.

I think you need to change this to recent history. Throughout our history, we have an excellent record of producing homegrown talent. The 1958 cup final team was famously dubbed the £110 team, because the entire team cost only the £10 signing-on fee. Subsequently, we continued to produce talent from our youth set-up, including England internationals; Francis Lee and Peter Reid, for example. Even since we were relegated from the Premier League, we’ve produced England internationals Rob Holding and Aaron Ramsdale, along with Zach Clough (sold for £4 million), Josh Vela, and others. The current England U17 European champions include two Man City players from Bolton and Wigan, who were both snapped up from us by City when Anderson shut our academy! Don’t judge our record through the chaos of the Anderson years. Though it still hurts, it’s a tiny chapter in our history.

There's not been a pathway for eons. Evatt wasn't interested, Slimy Ken ruined all the work wed done getting to cat 1 status from 2012, so loads of talent who would have been feeding through over last few years, plus good coaches left us around 2017/18 The academy is in as good a place as I've seen it for over 10 yrs.

Problem, imo, is that its not about team success, its about producing 1, maybe 2 individuals If theyre winning cos big dave can bully kids, its not quite as rosy a picture Im not saying this is the case, but it really wouldnt surprise me Your thoughts?
  11. A tough thing indeed followed by a year of firsts that is equally as strange. Eventually it gets better but it never goes. You just have more memories to make you smile than be sad.

Bit of a poor show today. Nobody signed, nobody sold. Come on Schumacher and Harkin. Get it sorted. 🙂

Indeed. I'd say since 1990s the return has been pretty poor. Obviously the premier league era didn't lend itself to bringing youth through. After Kevin Nolan and Nicky Hunt there's probably only Holding, Clough and Vela worth shouting about. For the vast amounts spent that's not really a great return and obviously it's not just us.
  17. Back on the original topic ... just got our long stay visa for France, so at the moment I'm loving everything and everyone. Even you fuckers.

Aye, inwood looked ok during our dismal end of season run in alongside players who'd given up, but I wouldn't want him featuring much next season The rest were miles off being anything close to ready
  19. Just sent me this. Think we all owe him an apology.
  20. There was another article explaining an earlier incident in Starbucks. Vaguely referenced at the start when it first came out. Thought it might be some white fella abusing the Mum. Turns out it stemmed from an argument on the flight..their mother had a row with another passenger. Gets to the airport she points him out to their son, so he headbutted the other passenger. Throw the book at the cunt. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn5kqe01r5zo
  21. Getting £9.5m for Clough and Madine should've lead to criminal charges and prison sentences.
  22. Absolutely no one
  23. To be fair, I'd argue that of those four only Clough and Holding really made it It just goes to show how tough it is Hopefully a few of our current crop buck the trend
  24. It's definitely a good thing that we now have a manager seemingly more willing to entertain the possibility of giving them a go
  25. They won't be played in SS doesn't think they're up for it. Even when they are given opportunities, no one would expect them to become permanent fixtures instantly. Another bit of supposition there. However, he has made it clear that the squad is to be reduced and opportunities presented to younger players should they merit it. Something that appeared to be lacking under Evatt. Nothing is a given with the young players, but I'm perfectly happy to see them given a go when the manager sees fit. The first team players we have were all young ones too at one point, how did they ever prove their worth without being given a chance? We're a third division club and don't need world beaters. We've gone through a process with a manager who kept telling people that we were the best team, played the best football etc, as if the players were exactly that. It had limited success.
  26. If we're doing better than our current direct rivals at 1st team level, in an area that they all deem important for the club long-term, thats a good thing.
  27. Horrible fucking cunts. I wish they were shot dead.

Every credit to him. Just had a quick look at him on facebook and he seems a proper decent councillor, who actually does his fucking job.
  29. If he needs help from two players, its a no from me 😀. Anyway its a loan and feels like a no-risk signing, if he's no better than Schon and Tutu, he won't play and we aren't stuck with him, so let's see what he can do in L1.
  30. Lost me at level headed jackburn fan ha. All throbbers mate

  32. Also zero fucks on Southwood leaving, a typical modern day ball at feet goal keeper that wasn’t actually very good at saving the ball from going in his net.
  33. I have no clue what you’re on about or referring too
  34. maybe his ambition is to play every week as a #1 choice, like he was at Cheltenham, before he joined us
  35. Decent pizza too. Jordan Davies transitioned into the pizza business folowing a football career blughted by injury. He runs Jordy's Pizza, which includes a mobile catering service, a stall at Crewe market hall, and a new dine-in pizzeria in Nantwich that opened in Autumn 2023.
  36. Got me thinking now. Similar story to Max Clayton who was with us (also from Crewe). Really talented lad who had some horrible injuries. Gave up on football and makes pizzas for a living now. Seems like a waste of huge talent!
  37. Because he’s not very good. 😂
  38. They don't employ anyone until they've been vetted and shown to fit the requisite criteria. Maybe SS wants keepers with a more positive, commanding approach? It isn't purely about height, but if someone isn't tall, then they need to make up for it in presence. It may also be the case that Southwood wanted to be a number one, and wasn't going to be, so pushed for a transfer.
  39. Sounds like a WWF wrestler from 1993
  40. 70s and 80s were very different times. People weren't locked up for saying hurty words in the pub (the old form of social media posts). Once a government sets its stall out, it has to apply those "rules" equitably.
  41. I think that was more to do with him being so pissed off with the seniors more than anything else
  42. He always reminded me of Boycey from OFAH.
  43. Nah. Bus from the airport - get off at La Cala De Mijas. Taxi to Finca Naundrup about 10 - 15 euros. Tax back to bus stop for 3-5 Euro ride to Marbs bus station.
  44. I know. The 'bad' made it better for me - even more amusing. Made better for me by the fact that my b-in-law was over there laying bricks at that time as many Brits were. Some of the tales were priceless. Regular nice weather, fantastic beer and British lads with pots of money. What could possibly go wrong
  45. One of my all time favourite TV series.
  46. Blimey. Gary Holton. Kitsch by The Heavy Metal Kids is in my top 10 albums that I’ve ever bought Yeah, I’m an old cunt like you. Festivals used to be festivals. Who gave a toss what was said or performed. Somebody maybe wrote about it in a fanzine that you picked up months later Wonder how the 70s/80s festivals and concerts would be reacted to now? Bands smashing gear up, throwing TVs out of hotel windows, punks dressing up in nazi regalia, band members dying from booze/drugs, etc, etc…. A couple of shit bands/artists saying hurty things at a BBC wankfest and the world turns upside down. Just fuck off and die on the vine of disinterest
  47. this randomly popped up as a suggestion on youtube which I never use for music but thought the name sounds pretty cool so why not loving it
