Fuckin miserable all this. I'm off to Isreal thread to talk about Holocausts and Genocides.
  2. It's a massive gamble but one I'm all for. I honestly couldn't face another season of that weak as piss mentality getting bullied and battered by fuckers like Stockport. Let's just have a fucking go.

Many teams have their own version of Big Dave these days. Rotherham, Blackpool, Accrington Salford for example all have land of the giants up front. Dave is v effective at winning free kicks high up the pitch so whilst he can bully, he's also clever. I didn't see the tranmere match, but the report said their CB, a 29yr old with 370 appearances for port Vale, was grappling and pulling to try and contain him. Hopefully you'll get to see what I mean. He was great a drawing a foul near the area last season. But footballing wise there's Rice, a v fast direct and physically strong left winger, low centre of gravity and great at getting to the byline and crossing, smith a 6ft 2 powerful and skillful right back, lawrence is a wiley 10 who can finish and build up well. Theres some good quarterback style midfielders who will need to get bigger. Hogan is a v tough no nonsense centre back great in the air. And there's a few in the 18s who might get a sniff too. Good crop.

If Dalby is the white Drogba he'll still be that in September. If he isn't, good that we've focused minds to bring in another striker.

Forrester Go and grab dempseys hand and fuck off to some convalescence home
  6. There is absolutely no case to argue that. If we had a player as good as him but the manager couldn't use him in his bizarre, & ultimately failed, systems then it's the manager who needed looking at.

reminds me of the story when Seth Johnson signed for Leeds from Derby, when Ridsdale was in charge and spunking cash all over the place he was on 5k a week at Derby his agent reckoned he could get him up to 10k or so they sat down and Ridsdale said, let's not mess about here and get straight to the point, it's 30k a week and no higher they left with 37k a week

We got £2.5m for Rob Holding from Arsenal around the same time David Brooks went from Sheffield Utd to Bournemouth for £11.5m, whilst City signed Patrick Roberts from Fulham for £12m I know we had financial issues but seeing young lads with barely a season of championship football under their belts go for £10m+ and we got fuck all was just further evidence of us being wank in the transfer market Particularly when RH went on to have the best PL career of the 3 of them

You're going to have to break down this £100m for me You listed 10 players so averaging £10m each And you've got Vela in the list
  12. Those locks were cleared of vegetation some years ago, together with the dry section of canal near the breach. In fact volunteers cleared that section twice iirc. Presumably from the canal and rivers trust or similar. As you can see the vegetation is gradually returning- can't keep nature at bay! It will be a monumental effort and expense if the whole lot is revamped back to a usable state! Watson homes are paying for the breach repair as part of the adjacent housing developments. (Sorted well before the election, just for Cassie's peace of mind! 😁)
  13. I mentioned on another thread about the regeneration of the Bolton/Bury canal. Went down today to see the progress of the breach repair. Coming along nicely along with clearing the main stretch of canal of trees and laying a hard base. On my photo, you can see the stone wall on the far side and the red brick one nearer to the camera. The other photo is from 1936 when the breach occurred.

Clough was a very good Championship player who had bad luck with injuries Started off well at Forest but new manager came in, he got injured again and that was that During his first spell with us he was a joy to watch and one of the only things worth going to the match for when the club was falling apart

Think Everton got £40m for Lescott same time as we got a paltry £6m for Cahill.
  16. A tough thing indeed followed by a year of firsts that is equally as strange. Eventually it gets better but it never goes. You just have more memories to make you smile than be sad.
  17. You are right but after 3 bottles of quality 5 euro wine I genuinely don’t care. We gave him away like so many others. Problem is not identifying real talent early enough when we have them or that with money being tight we’ve not invested in them maturing with the team.

  21. Sam has injured his hamstring as too has Forrester, looks like they're out until August, we definitely need a new striker now

around 200 from a population of 4,000,000? if you want historical drama to more closely represent modern cultural diversity than historical accuracy, that's fine. if you prefer historical accuracy, that's also fine. but they are 2 different things.
  23. Dzemaili was a Swiss international and captain of his club when we signed him, hardly an unknown youngster
  24. Getting the injuries out of the way. I like it.

Hopefully not. But its a timely reminder that injuries happen (to us) and however strong our keeper, full backs, CBs, midfielders and wingers are, if we don't have 2 decent fit strikers for 90% of league games, we aren't going to get far. We know we'll have plenty cover in other positions even if eg Tomo has to play LB, but we can't function without strikers and if we don't start the season with another two we've only ourselves to blame when we're down to 1 fit striker.
  26. Danny Ward, Ashley Fletcher, Chris Basham, Aaron Mooy, Luca Connell, Josh Vela, Rob Holding, Joey O'Brien, Aaron Ramsdale, Zach Clough, Nat Phillips. There has to be £100 million in value there at their peaks If we can just get 1 decent one every 2-4 years that's enough on top of the 1, maybe 2 that would drop down to league 1 and 2 for a few 100k every year. Combine that with the signings we've made and while i agree it isn't amazing it might be enough to approach keeping our heads above water.
  27. Rice and Smith are from Everton. Wigan academy has been on the wane since the Whelans left

We still need at least two other strikers, we needed one before Collins left. Can’t imagine Schuey was planning to go into the season with only Dalby

Darren Grimes moaning about a black bloke playing Othello is a classic of this genre.
  30. Probably helps if the academy director can be trusted, too?

I'm with you on this. If it's supposed to be historically accurate, show it as it was. Owt else is taking the piss.

  34. Think it was actually six million to Cardiff for Madine which seems as crazy now as it did then!
  35. Cassie's #usualsuspects?
  36. Peely was commenting that muslims will outbreed Jews over the next few years. He must have done the Bleeding Obvious course. That implies that Peely believes that the Jewish population will grow - just by far smaller numbers than those who would see them obliterated. Our good friend is hallucinating again. It will be the psylocibin.
  37. It's only when my mum went that I realised even though she could start a riot in a phone box she was the glue that held the rest of family together. A birthday or event would never not be celebrated or mean a get-together. A few years on those birthdays and events aren't the same anymore. All lads and Dad left means things get left, which is a bit shit really.

🤣 Precisely the reason I didn't put anything other than the link up. Made the point elsewhere about local government possibly being better free from party influence. Perhaps why there seems to be more independent groups and individuals nowadays. I'm luck enough to have a good egg for a local Councillor too.

you'll need to tell everyone which party he's from so they know whether to praise him or slag him off.

RIP to the two lads and condolences to their families. It was a double take moment when reading the news. Understandable that the fans of the club are rallying around. However I can also see the point some are making about the mawkish nature of some of the reaction. It becomes another form of virtue signalling ego-tripping and there is too much of it in the modern world.

Tbh I find these grief junkies trying to outdo each other obscene and makes me feel very uncomfortable. It's not about you ffs. What's wrong with a simple heartfelt RIP and to just let the poor family grieve? Stop trying to get in on the act you utterly sad twats

Heard a snippet of an interview earlier with a Liverpool fan who’s flown over to Portugal to stand outside and pay his respects. Something not quite right about people like that. But at lease @L/H White can top up his tan.

While I totally agree it is a very sad event , I can't help but thinking ffs turn it in a tad, a young man very sadly dies in a car accident - it happens every day but we don't hear about most as they are not young famous sportsmen. Just let his family grieve in peace and in the way they choose.

Hya Si, not been on here for a while so glad to see you are making a good recovery. I've been through the wars myself and also on clopidogrel amongst other drugs for the rest of my life. The cause of my downfall was ale but been off it now for nearly two years after I was diagnosed with liver disease. Must admit I've never felt better, my weight loss was alarming and was being sick all the time but have made a full recovery so it can be done. Hope our paths cross again in the near future, you never know, I might see you on the Glasgow bound train again.
