The only way they stop, is when we make it far, far less an attractive option to come here. Until that changes, they keep coming, no matter how many boats we have patrolling the channel.
Bloke on the radio the other day (claiming to be from Border Force) said that as its such a small body of water, it's nearly impossible to detect these boats, as they are so small, they can hide in the wake of larger vessels, of which there are many. He says the quirk is that is the crossing was far bigger, it wouldbe much easier to spot them and turn them back. The fact it's such a tiny and busy stretch of water, is what actually makes it so difficult to police. This caller rang in, as a result to one of those dicks who thinks it must be easy, because Australia managed to turn back some boats. He may be wrong, I honestly wouldn't know, but it does sound plausible
