Hopefully its the last we'll hear from the fame hungry bog snorkeler for a while anyway.

He does a lot of work for southern police forces, and it was a generous offer to do this for free.

Been a bit of a strange approach from him though, especially if he was hoping to expand his business up here.

Obviously got a bit carried away with all the attention. Imagine he'll be waking up in cold sweats for a while regretting some of the things he said in the spur of the moment.

TV news rightly condemning all the ghouls amongst the public, on tiktok etc yet oddly, not specifically naming Sky & ITV like the family statement did.  Even the BBC referring to "some sections of the media were condemned".

He does but this time he wasn't invited by the police. I think maybe he should have built some networks with the lancs police but I get the feeling he was unwelcome but I am guessing.

All in all I think lessons will be hard learnt by all concerned unfortunately.

Unless they specifically call out the people on social media by name then they're unlikely to do the same for other media outlets

Would probably end up being a shit storm of papers/media blaming one another and would carry on into any further story

The family also criticised Sky News and ITV, whom they said had contacted them despite their appeal for privacy on Sunday.

Aye

If I was the partner I wouldn't be giving interviews saying I 100% didn't believe she was in the water

Let the police do their job but comments like that can be seen to undermine them which fuels the twitter brigade

Fucking scumbags

No doubt if any action is taken against them it'll be a slap on the wrist but it's good things like this are being challenged

Ofcom don't just sleep until prodded.

They make sure that everything that is broadcast is up to regulatory standards. You can't mess with them.

Every piece of copy you write that is broadcast has to be vetted by them, every bit of stats (hence the haircare percentages with *)

You can't mess with them, if any broadcast material has broken the cast iron regulations, then you get fucked.

So what will happen to itv and sky if they've broke the regulations?

Relegation to CBeebies and no European coverage for 5 years.

Could be a massive fine, sometimes a select committee dunno, depends what regulations they've broken I guess.

Can't imagine they'd get fucked to the point of it having any effect on their output

Probably be seen as a slap on wrists and then business as usual

It's not like they've hacked phones or anything

Will be interested to see what happens to them but will be surprised if it accounts to much

Yeah - I guess its if the government steps in to put further legislation/regualtion in place in situations such as this, but I doubt it. I'm not even sure how that would work - but their directives do come from parliment even though their are indpenedant and their money comes from the companies they regulate.

Either way - it's a fascinating subject and I'm glad it's been brought up! It's certainly adding to the enjoyment of my Wednesday 😁

What a depressing load of shite that all was. Everything that's wrong with society from frothy journalists to social media pricks, all rearing their ugly heads. Can't even begin to imagine what that's done to the family on top of everything they've been through. Whoever made those calls to the family the day they found out needs sacking immediately.

Anyway, there's a young black lass in London still missing so I'm sure the tiktok numpties and wider media will be all over that shortly enough.... wait a minute.

See, I think I and most others would see that as a slap on the wrists.
