Yeah agreed, wasn't tiredness. Barnsley we're just a better team than us last year, and their style of suffocating the game really didn't suit us in either leg.

I'm fully of the opinion, you keep winning cup games to keep morale up, and that only changes of you're in the midst of a massive injury crisis. At the minute we could name practically a different 7/8 subs and should get through this, so gives players on the edge of the team a chance to get in form. I can't see any drawback.

Our 2nd string should be good enough to beat their 2nd string, on to the next round.

Port Vale are still in 3 cups - Q-F of League Cup, 2nd round of FA Cup, and knockout stages of BSM. If that was Liverpool they'd be talking about winning the treble.

I read that Newcastle U21s have gone 17 games without a win in this cup, their last win was at Grimsby in 2018.  Howe has to go surely.

If only.  If they ditched U21s and group format I'd have nothing against it.

As much as I dislike group formats in European comps, I get that they make a tonne of cash by having as many games as possible for every club that qualifies for Europe.  God knows why there are so many meaningless games in this tinpot cup, it can only be for the benefit of the U21s.

Same, I don't think attendances would improve much in the non U21 games if this format wasn't a thing, and we'd probably still be sat here after 3-4 seasons playing in it thinking of ways it could be improved, but the academies route is not the way!

Maybe single rounds with straight knockout from the start, but it should be allowed to be what it is, a cup for the lower leagues with no interference re. participants or squad strength.

Or can it altogether.

I agree to an extent but it is fun twatting the ManUre U21's 12-1 on aggregate over 2 seasons

What benefit do they get out of it?

Are we able to play Conway and Khumbeni if we want? Similarly, Carty - surely available if we beat Vale?

Feel Sure I read that Carty's loan doesnt technically finish til the end of December so cant be available until january . usually wrong tho.

You're correct (about Carty, not about being wrong).

Might as well start JDB and Dan again

And CMG

Ashworth probably worth a start

I’d give Matherson another game but he rested Dacres- Cogley on Saturday so he’ll probably start.
