Head the guy plugging it on Bolton FM, sounds interesting. Seems a shame that Rioch is now living "as a bit of a recluse" in Cornwall. Wanted nothing to do with the book, which is fair enough and his prerogative.

Ordered it for the FiL for his birthday, and might get a copy for myself.

Mentioned he makes more from it if you buy away from Amazon.

Great times, a good manager, played great football.

He'd have done better to stay with us in retrospect. He, however, very properly let his contract run down and joined a top club who's training ground was a mile from his home.

A terrible shame he joined an Arsenal following the George Graham scandle & had a crumbling team which fought against his changes ... & Ian Wright basically rebelled and won the tussle.

Only got the one season in which before he was removed, he signed Dennis Bergkamp. Replaced by Arsene Wenger ... a decision which you can't really fault.

Never heard a bad work about us from him, nor about him from others (Ian Wright excepted).

This guy is the author and he agrees and interacts with one of the biggest #bwfc cranks on Twitter, so I'll hang fire and listen to the reviews first.

Most important manager we’ve ever had.

Talk about big games and rising to occasion.

We were just never beat.

Remember John McGinlay telling me at Hull away at half time he opened all the windows of the changing room and told the players to just listen to our fans. Just listen what it means to them.

Superb.

Not a water pistol in sight :)

In fairness, Collins was fucking dreadful at Stevenage (far from alone) and the fact he can then pull out a performance as good as Monday’s in the space of three days make it all the more infuriating (again, not alone in that)

A frustrated post after a poor result doesn't necessarily correspond to a poorly written book, presumably undertaken during more level headed moments.

Take the plunge.

Ill buy it at some point but i found him a bit of an arse in the interview

Its why i posted the amazon link :)

Not looked at the interview.

Like you, will probably get it at some point.

I have a large stack of reading to get through though!

Even though I didn't know it at the time they were terrific days. The best I've had following Bolton under a any manager. Hard to explain to someone who wasn't around at that time. They were so good I would have back us to get a result against any team in the country. Felt invincible.

I don't think he suits pedestrian football. Needs that passing and movement. Won't always work for him of course, but he's not a bloke we can just lump it up to.

Collins played up top in one and not the other.

He was intended to play up top in both but got bored in one of them

While I think this is nonsense I imagine playing with Jerome could actually do that.

Nearly 30 years later and I struggle to think of a better goal than this. The embodiment of the team in one goal; how many strikers on the pitch at this stage? pace, power, individual brilliance, selfless forward play, one touch and driving runs, from defence to the back of the net in seconds… that team never knew they were beat: 0-2 after 12 mins, 3-2 after 105 mins. Biggest game in 15 years and they clawed their way back with panache, wet look gel and an iconic kit

I’ll never forget Rioch in his first season as our manger saying “If we win our last 5 games, we’ll get promoted”

Chester (H)

Bournemouth (A)

Hull (A)

Port Vale (H)

Preston. (H)

We won all 5 and i’m so glad i went to them all.

Oh & we beat Liverpool at Anfield.

Great days.

Stoke (H) before Preston wasn't it? They were celebrating winning the title and enjoying the fact that us beating them made it much more difficult for Port Vale. Amazing season as we didn't really begin to click until October I think and then were brilliant for the back half of the season (or that's how I remember it).
