Ive promised my 18 year old daughter , who is struggling with depression/anxiety I would make her a CD of different moods . If she wants to be angry , if she wants to be sad, if she wants to be lifted up  etc.

Ive told her all emotions are ok its just how we react to those feelings that helps or hinders us .

when I was her age in the early 90s , we played songs to get us pumped up for a night out , but I think its different for kids these days .

She is a "young " 18 year old pretending to be worldly wise  and whilst I worked my shit out with Maiden , Queen, Deep Purple, Led Zepplin, Black sabbath , I dont think that will work with her.

I can do the Anger stuff , Hed PE , Hot Action Cop, Type O negative etc

I thought maybe younger girl power stuff like Pink or Aria Grande but thats not cool .  Then I thought of Enya & Evanesence, even Avril Lavigne and Black eyed Peas.

She seems to be descending into rape rap and this is propably just how my parents felt when I got into Slayer, Venom, Exodus etc

Any advice and , just cool songs is more than welcome . Tho if I mention Cat Stevens and Paul Simon one more time I think she is just gonna spit in my face.

It is brilliant you are there for your daughter in this way and can acknowledge with her for her mental health.

I am pretty sure 99% of people on here will be too old to offer any suggestions that would not make her roll her eyes.

Trying to understand what is cool (or even using the word cool) for anyone else let alone a teenage girl is impossible tastes are so varied.
Neither of my step kids were massively into music but trying to wade through modern music when they did dip in was a nightmare. Only so much Miley Cyrus and Justin Beiber I could take - although still like Miley when she is not being a skank.

My 17 year old (soon to be 18) likes Beabadoobee, loves Mazzy Star but her higher power is Larna Del Ray, Norman Fucking Rockwell is on a loop. She also suffers from anxiety and we listen to loads of music together which is good good for us both!

Have you thought about getting a family Spotify thing? It means we make playlists for each other for all sorts of stuff.

Bought my daughter (14) one of the 2manydj's mixes to lift her up, said it helps (she heard me listening to it) and has a fair mix, can't beat some 90's/00's style house music stylings to perk your mood and I'm not even into dance music.

Good that she's talking about it thought, it's the only way.

Its what we do, then on car journeys we alternate between each others lists.

Yes - it really helps on longer car journeys - everyone gets a song every 15 minutes they like!

No idea but my 6 year old daughter has discovered Taylor Swift and watches the Blank Space video on repeat which all seems very grown up

Also this way managed to get the kids into New Order and The Smiths.

Although after a few hours of Larna Del Ray songs I'm normally ready to swerve into the central reservation (not the one by Beth Orton).

Something completely rational to get wound up about at 12:28 on a Sunday afternoon. Especially with a dyslexic poster😳

Sorry - hadn't noticed to be honest. Yeah names I have a real issue with with this dyslexic nonsense. Like Michael always, always, always spell it Micheal 🙄 or Liecester - rather then Leicester constantly. Don't even read the difference. I can try and commit them to memory and literally five seconds later - gone. It's a pain in the ruddy arse if told.

That’s truly a beautiful thing, and I echo the Spotify playlist- let it be organic, explore music together
