Sheehan out for me as well. The game frequently massages to pass him by in a system which is set up for him to be able to play.

Be better coming off the bench if required IMO.

Maybe Sheehan takes too long to get his passes off because those around him don't show for the ball like they did last night?

And we were allowed the freedom of Shropshire last night. Normally he's given a suicide pass facing his own goal with some fucker already on his back.

Having played that well with a new formation on Tuesday, if he reverts back to "Plan B", then i'd seriously question his thought process.

he'll be gutted

i honestly think it makes a big difference when we have players happy to take the ball from the keeper

those 3 centre backs last night should all be capable

This is based solely on the evidence so far, but I think our thing Matete seems to offer us that no other midfielder does is the ability to drive forward in possession

I'd think we'll probably begin making more use of that ability as the season progresses

Team Spencer not in attendance for this work for me and recovering after falling down some steps at ski rossendale for my dad, the daft fucker stayed upright on the slope and fell down the last few steps leaving the place 🤦

Due to our lack of attendance it'll be a cracker so enjoy.

Looking like shit loads of availability for such a cheap game

You're really just inviting a discussion on attendances, relative pulling power of the visitors, home fans in South Stand, poss stadium expansion aren't you 😀

Folk need to remember we have a sqaud for a reason.

Injuries and lack of cover fucked us up completely last season.

It's a marathon not a sprint.

Evatt needs to remember this as much as anyone, and use the squad fully in league games. He stuck with the same team in the league for far too long last season and injuries eventually mounted up. Sticking with most from last night's team might be a good thing long term

A big squad is not a problem for Exeter City though - it's been a revolving door for them this summer and although they've already signed 10 players they are still looking for more in the next couple of days. They have a good kid on loan from Brighton but I get the impression that Caldwell is still trying to find the right mix - so if they do turn out to be any good we've probably caught them at the right time.

So many are away though (including myself). Last weekend before school holidays finish.

Probably should have waited till the reading game to do the tenner deal

Yep- credit to the people that identified the need and the player to fill it.

Just hope he uses those players in the best way for the team and promotion ambitions. If that means dropping/resting someone for the greater good, then so be it.

Last year the first one was Peterboro in late September, crowd 21,300, slightly up on the average but the cheaper tickets weren't exactly a game changer.

In both cases, we'd lost our last league game with feeble performances and that's probably as big a factor as holidays.

We both like Sheehan, but out of curiosity I have to ask did you watch the game last night? Matete has only played a limited amount of time for us so it's hard to be certain, but he really does offer something different and seems to give the other players the confidence to make more runs and we have a greater attacking threat whilst being more compact in midfield. Accepts the ball in very tight areas but doesn't get knocked off it too much.

Which means Sheehan will probably start :)

This is the bigger game than playing arsenal reserves in a tinpot cup.

Attacking cogs are beginning to turn,  I,m going a 3-0 victory.

Charles - pen maybe, does that count

Collins

Dempsey with a late one after  coming on as a 65th minute sub

I'm not Sheehan's biggest Fan.

But he will still be a major part of Evatt's plans.

So, like I said, hope he uses the squad to the best effect. If that means resting or picking players for a particular game, then great.

I like Sheehan and he should start but it’s on IE to get him some protection.

It’s not difficult as an oppo manager to say hmmm go and terrorise Sheehan (especially in a 2) and stop Bolton creating anything. Even champ man legends can work that one out.

Two aspects for me, others have to help protect him, but he has to work and move too.

If it's fairly slow, and players quite static, then it's easy to defend against.

Sheehan can mix his game, make runs and take a marker away to open gaps etc.

Think it just became a bit stale last season.

At least we now have a mixture of lads to pick from, and keep each other on their toes.

Got to build on Tuesday and any win.

bet they come and sit deep - so let’s see how we respond.

We've got the two aways in the smoke out of the way and the home to the newly promoted team so this is where the marathon properly starts.

Time for the old crunching out of results and point building... play, train, train ,train. play, train, train... and so on

Up to Mr Evatt now

Once you get to January, you don't really Train, so work on the grass midweek at this stage is absolutely crucial for the infamous "content download"

As long as it's not "content overload" !

Make no bones about it - this game is massive.
we need to be winning games like this at home if we want to stay up which isn’t looking likely at the minute.
raucous away following will only make it more difficult.
I am not looking forward to it.

take care
