A P reg (from about 1976 I think) Vauxhall Viva that I bought after I passed my test in 1983. Seven year old cars where regarded as bangers back in those days, mine needed a 'fix' of WD40 sprayed into the distributer cap most mornings to get it to start. Ther seems to be a theme of Vauxhalls for first cars emerging here.

vauxhall chevette for me, a superb little car at the time,

remember the engine going on the way back from chester away.

Vauxhall Chevette for me n'all, in turd brown. Picked it up on the same day as that glorious game at Wrexham and then missed the game as the exhaust fell off.

Quickly moved onto my first Mini.

Canary Yellow 1600 Ford Cortina with vinyl roof. Steering wheel size of a bin lid. Like dukes of hazard. Jumped a Sherpa Van at the (old) Mather Lane Brdige in Leigh

Green Mini 1000, bought around 1977 and it was shagged then. I can even remember the reg number (JMB 552 L) and I shudder to reflect that I called it "Vinny's Mini"!

Sold on (top dollar) to an unsuspecting Cockney wideboy college mate of a pal of mine. Result! :db:

My 1st car was a blue Austin Allegro which I bought from an auction. I thought it was the dogs at the time as the front seats folded flat and made it almost into a bed (very useful!)

Then the head gasket it went and it used to smoke like one of the red arrows so it had to go. I traded it in for a Fiesta from Gordons of Bolton and after agreeing a price with them I took it home and swapped all the tyres for bald ones with on my mates datsun.

A 1968 Morris 1000 traveller in black. Bought for ?110 from a student in Hindley, it used to be the collective car for nuns in Upholland apparently! NDL 200G, 1st thing was to hotrod it by swapping the engine for a fiat 2 litre twin cam, modded propshaft and rear axle. Went like stink, but sadly I didn't bother with the brakes and wrote off a rather nice Triumph Vitesse convertible at the junction of Crabtree lane with it.......

Rebuilt and flogged on to a copper in the lakes somewhere!
