DazBob Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 I'm getting bored of it now. My car's been entombed in a block of ice for about a week now. I'm not bothering to defrost it because the road is like an ice rink and I'm not wheel spinning a mid-90s BMW down that. Quote

Just disconnected the outlet and left a bucket under the boiler. Should be reet until the pipe thaws over the weekend. Quote
Spider Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 Leave your boilers on a low setting and keep them programmed to come on every couple of hours. Loads of them freeze up otherwise Quote

Yes that’s the one but paid some fella £100 for the pleasure, he said it’s just freak weather insulating pipes would make no difference basically keep it ticking on constant for the next few days Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 (edited) In laws have a long length of external pipe taking away condensate. A while back it froze, so the reduced it's length so it drained before it cooled too much. At a recent service the engineer kindly re-comnected the severed pipe with a jointing piece. It froze again! M-i-l out in the dark with a hack saw cutting it again! Edited December 15, 2022 by Tonge moor green jacket Quote

Lagging external pipes is genuinely an area where you need to spend good money. I see it every day, cheap lagging that basically lets the water freeze faster. Quote

A 'Siberian winter'. 1981 or '82? Seem to recall it was around -20C. Gas pipes, water pipes, car radiators bursting all over the place. To be fair, it did touch zero degrees here once in a place called Jandakot. Quote

They are 5 degrees out in extreme weather either way. Drama queens these vehicle thermometers But... My car has the hand brake frozen if I try and drive it outside of the one hour its not minus 1 during the day. Literally can't move. Fucked off with it. That and that 1 inch of compacted ice on the pavement that won't shift now that makes you walk like you've shit yourself. You can fuck off too! Quote
