Pre season means fuck all, those comments from Dougie sound like he wants more players. I hope to god one is a centre back, with Wheater just signing a new contract it would surely be the other centre back that is replaced!

Good drink today with some Carlisle based Wanderers, and Adlington Trotter off here (he's kicked on, I've got work at 8.30)

 

We shit out of everything tonight, similar problem to last season, when the opposition seem up for it we go weak at the knees.

 

I think tonight was a shop window job for a few players for transfers and loans.

 

Ream will never make a LB as long as I have a hole in my arse.

 

Positives: I like Hall; ZK MUST be closer to the door.

Poor tonight. Hall, Medo & Eagles looked brightest. Lester was lively 2nd half. Not much else positive. Fitness compared to Carlisle wasn't impressive, too easily forced into bad passes all over the pitch. Monsoon conditions were no help, and Carlisle didn't threaten that much, but still unimpressed.

 

About 40% of our likely first XI started, but they should still look like a team with a plan. Not sure what our pre-season friendlies are all about. With one to go, we're not seeing any team-building; just players having a run out.

Happy to wager with you that BWFC will end up in the top half of the table, you can have bottom half. You can name the size of wager - happy with anything, even in the thousands if you want it.

 

There are plenty on here who will confirm that I pay my debts.

I would have thought that with just one friendly to go, we would at some stage at Carlise seen the nucleus of the starting 11 at Burnley, but maybe Dougie knows best

Pre-season friendlies are training/fitness exercises and our 1st eleven haven't started a game yet. The matches have been bigger for Rotherham, Shrewsbury and Carlisle. Yes it would be nice to have won but the results don't mean shit.

 

Positives are Sordell and Hall and is Dougie proving to the board he needs another defender playing the likes of Mears, Ream, Knight...we do need to sort our defence out and the guaranteed signing of Dawson can't come soon enough.

Sadly, we know that the Dawson signing is far from guaranteed, if we bring another CB in, then they'll have to "hit the ground running" and be able to slot straight in. At least Dawson already has an idea of how we play and what the deficiencies of his partner at CB are, somebody new might take a little longer to work this out

Must admit that after watching us at Portsmouth last pre-season, I came to the conclusion that Coyle had completely lost it (not that I ever thought he had it)..

 

I haven't seen any this season, so don't want to pre-judge.

The manager will have a macrocycle in place for all his staff, within this micro cycles will also be provided for small periods of time and for different reasons. e.g. the u21 game at chorley may have been a measurement of game related fitness / distances.

 

The players havnt been running round with black bibs on just for the fun of it.

 

Im not too bothered if players wernt going hell for leather last night, consider the last player to do that in a friendly broke his leg, and that was on a sunny day...

 

The manager also must have to justify everything to the chairman? If he wants a new player, show him why the players currently in that position of need are not good enough and why can't the manager do something about it?

 

Expect a side on friday that may be closer to what folk think could be starting at Burnley

Well, I for one am looking forward to seeing what side Dougie puts out on Friday. I have the utmost faith that this will be a successful season. Looking forward to Pratley getting a full season without abuse, Medo pulling the strings with his phenomenal passing ability, Eagles and Hall tearing it up, and Sordell's signing finally paying off.

Why have you made this assumption? Not saying you're wrong, as no one will know until the season unfolds, but if we take last season's form under Dougie into this season we will be title contenders. 

 

We've added a left back that got promoted with Norwich, Baptiste who is highly rated in this division and was wanted by Premier League Palace, Medo IMO will be a revelation, Pratley has proven his quality and is ready for a full season without abuse, Beckford will almost certainly score more than Kevin Davies, Wheater, Holden, Lee will all be fitter than they were this time last year, Rob Hall and Sordell are both showing flashes of brilliance etc.

 

Yes, we still need to improve on the defence/spine of the side perhaps, but I see nothing but positives going into the new season. Fuck the results of friendlies, they're meaningless training sessions at best.

We're 2 players off being a serious contender for the top 2 places, luckily we know who they are and even better I'm sure both will be willing to come to the club and should hit the ground running because they've been here last season. We just need to ship 2-3 out which we will do before the season starts and that opens the door for incoming players.

Completely agree......( but get rid of the signature, it makes you look a bit of a dick ! )

 

I would add that there are also all the under-20's we've signed, the young reserve players on the fringes of the first team (Vela, Eaves etc), & then the highly rated crop of youth players coming up.

 

I doubt that many of these will make much impact this season, but as well as plugging the gaps in the current first team ( especially the full backs ), there are real signs that we are trying to build for the future as well.
