I wouldn't be surprised to see them relegated the following season, they're over extended grace in the top flight won't return for a long long long time." Edited January 17, 2015 by gonzo Quote
Ani Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Great win. Pratley was MOM by a country mile. Vela good in flashes but when were under pressure gave ball away in really bad places. They had lots of ball in second half but we had very good chances to close game out. As mentioned I have no idea why NL did not use subs, but we won so maybe he was right. Quote
Biggish Dave Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Vela is a legend, great performance. Top win and good day out. Andy lonergans fingertips in the last minute too, great save Quote

MalcolmW Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) As mentioned I have no idea why NL did not use subs, but we won so maybe he was right. Just because you're allowed to use subs doesn't mean you should do. We were leading (albeit under pressure) so the onus was on Weds to change the game. Conditions were unpleasant and any sub coming on (except at half time) would have far more difficulty than usual getting into the game as warming up was hardly feasible. Just suppose 3 subs had been used and then Lonergan got injured with 5 minutes, plus the added 28, remaining. We would have had a class GK sitting in the dugout and Wheater (or some such) in goal while the home team pressed. Edited January 17, 2015 by MalcolmW Quote
hughmungus Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 He hasn't used subs much in any of his games so far, which is why Spearing sees more of his wife and kids on a Saturday home game by waving to them in the hospitality box. Quote

Heskey and Cravies looked dead on their feet, the ball was constantly coming back, we had short period when we could have scored but they were all over us. As I said I could not believe we did not use a sub, conditions were difficult and sapping energy. For me it was crying out for fresh legs, as I also said NL did not and we won so maybe he was right. How you have turned that into a monologue about bringing all three subs is bizarre, as is the idea that bringing subs on can not help the team. Quote
whiteboy Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Heskey took a knock before the hour mark and could barely move after that! I wonder what kind of point NL was making and to who.. Great win though, creating plenty of chances in games now - got to hand it the man who inherited a pretty boring team from DF. Vela was exciting in midfield. Bit more experience and there's a real player there Quote

bolton va va Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Just home & it must have been a great game for a neutral but we should have been out of sight in the first half....but 2nd half we nearly threw it away. C Davies should have finished it with his free header but after that it got a bit scary...well done Lonergan. Big plus for the team's discipline....Sheffield were diving in with some daft challenges, play acting & squealing to the referee, Another plus to the sensible stewarding.....the 1st time I can remember a ground having unreserved seating with the stewards allowing the back 15ish rows to stand up without any problem....it made for a better atmosphere & let the people who wanted to sit down, sit down at the front . Hurrah. Quote
birch-chorley Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Stewards all seemed handy Looked like doormen, suppose they don't give a fuck who stands up. Your right though they generally kept to themselves. A lad in front of me sneaked his beer up and they quietly asked him to go down stairs and finish it. You would get the firing squad at our place for that. Quote
