DirtySanchez Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Didn't think the police could change a fixture day/kick off time but only advise then its down to the club/licensing authority/sky to decide Eg http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/sunderland-vs-newcastle-remain-4pm-5340765 Quote
DazBob Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Drive ? To a football away day down the south coast Are you mad? He's saying that because in the US they drive regardless of whether they've had a skinfull or not. Quote
frank_spencer Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 We were driving to my Auntie and uncles in Ferndown on the Friday night then back up Sunday. My uncle would have had a ticket in the home end but he can't go now either. Quote
snowball Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Sorry Big E, the Sky format has not changed in the last 15 years. It's like watching moving wallpaper, and the pundits are boring. Can go and watch if we are on and can't make the game with a beer at my club. Still have BT Sport which has much better presentation, but only very occasionally watch that. Ha Ha. It is utter shite, only got it coz of ESPN they can't fuck that up with Robbie Knobhead, Mr Boring Michael Owen absolutely woeful. Watch it with sound turned off if they have a half decent match and they have got Champions League next season? Let's hope they keep Savage well away from that Quote

anewman Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 I (or my dad) drove to every away game I ever attended, including several on the south coast. Gartside was disgusted when we were on the same flight as him for that Brighton game, he couldn't believe he had to travel with the peasants that's why he's done this Quote

RUREADY2ROLL Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 This is crap Last train back to London is too early so Brentford away and thats the season over for me Quote
SnoopJohnnyJohn Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 that doesn't mean to say you're in the majority. Are you suggesting that fans flying IS the majority? I would wager that more people drive than fly, and that both are probably dwarfed by train goers. The whole discussion was about having a non-refundable plane ticket. Train tickets are small potatoes in comparison. Quote

I would wager that more people drive than fly, and that both are probably dwarfed by train goers. The whole discussion was about having a non-refundable plane ticket. Train tickets are small potatoes in comparison. it's cheaper to fly than go by train. Especially if you book early enough. Which is becoming more popular. Changing it this late on is a cunts trick, no matter how you'd like to turn it. Football is not for fans anymore but for armchair wankers. Yet fans are still being asked to pay over the odds when attending, more often than not, then get treated like this. Not acceptable. Quote
SoberDan Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Well there goes another days holiday, but it's not much compared to some. On a serious note I have always used the rule of thumb of never booking train tickets for a match until 3 weeks in advance for this very reason and even then I look at the Sky fixtures. I can afford to pay £5 or £10 more for doing so as a lot of train companies offer advance ticket until a couple of days before. I cannot however afford to take a £40+ hit in one go and then dish out for another train fare, basically my advice is don't take risks when it comes to booking travel for football because sooner or later Sky will f**k you over as they have done several folk today. Big E Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 People seem shocked by this. Games get changed all the time. It's not ideal but the good days we all enjoyed came from sky money. You can't pick and choose when you want it. Like I have mentioned there should be a cap of distances mid week. Can't be that hard. Surely some (Malcolm) would know way of planning fixtures to avoid massive mid week journeys Quote
H Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 I didn't think this was a mid-week journey until it got fucked over by Sky Quote
Ani Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 That's my opinion too. Seriously though, it's not LATE notice (for those who are saying it is). The game is still over a month away. I would reckon that a VERY low percentage of the people who've planned the trip have already paid for flights and hotels, and if you have then go have a fun weekend anyway. Seriously. It's anything to moan about with you lot, it really is. To get to Bournemouth, the easiest and cheapest way is to fly, probably with flybye, think they do 3 flights a day from Manchester and they are smallish planes, maybe 100 seats. When they went on sales at Xmas time people booked straight away because of limited availability and to get the best price. It takes about 45 mins to Southampton and than 30 minutes on train, a doddle. Tickets were about £60/£70. I agree there won't be that many who have done this but there a few a lot of us know, they are n't millionaires, add on hotels again booked early to get a decent price as it is a seaside resort and prices do go up quick. Even if it is 'only' a couple of hundred quid it is still a pisser, the club will get many ££ more for the game being on live, would it hurt if people can prove they can not get a refund if the club made some type of gesture ? Quote
SoberDan Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Further thought, I am in no doubt that the midweek fixtures have worked out quite well for me this ear, none the less Rotherham, Middlesbrough and Ipswich weren't the most helpful. But if say next season all our local games I.E Blackburn, Burnley(if they go down), Preston(if they go up), Leeds, Huddersfield etc were moved to midweek how many would complain about the poorer away followings and "not being able to make a day of it". I'm by no means criticising but I am saying that these things can work both ways, what is really needed in an ideal and realistic world is some localish games to be midweek and some games that most wouldn't even bother turning out for A Saturday for(e.g Ipswich, Reading etc) also be moved to midweek. Quote
Big E Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 I didn't think this was a mid-week journey until it got fucked over by Sky No but a rule stopping it would have kept it at a weekend and the 12 people booked on flights would be happy. Quote

Your idea of a cap on midweek is fucking stupid, that would mean more local derbies midweek which will knock more off the gate and then loads of long journeys at weekends, what happens to Plymouth ? Can they only play at weekends ? Carlisle ? Quote
H Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Or maybe every game should be on Sky then no travel would be necessary at all Quote

Can they only play at weekends ? Carlisle ? That may be. To be honest I am not bothered. Yes it's unfortunate for those who booked but you take the risk. Nothing is guaranteed. Flights tickets that are fully flexible are available. People blame the club. They don't pick the fixtures. I dare say if it wasn't people who were known on here the opinions would be different Quote

Can they only play at weekends ? Carlisle ? A sensible point. It so happens that this year's Championship clubs fall neatly into 5 groups of 4 plus 4 outliers. 4 Lancashire, 4 Yorkshire, 4 Midlands, 4 London, 4 rest of the South plus: Norwich, Ipswich, Cardiff and Middlesbrough. The problem is always the outliers. We regard M'boro as a longish trip, but for them Bolton is one of the easy trips. Any solution has to be reasonably fair to all. If there is an answer it is to reduce division sizes to eliminate the bulk of midweek fixtures. Qatar might actually help that by forcing change to, for example, 5 divisions of 2x16 and 3x20. Quote
kaydan Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 I'd stick with it if it's a lads piss up and you've all shelled out a few quid. I bet you could find some local football to take in if you could be arsed. See if Poole Town or similar are at home. Quote
