Not officially, though I'm sure informal discussions take place all the time

But by the rules, clubs can only contact players within the last six months of their contract if they're under a different national governing body

If it's not an international transfer, the rules are that players can only be contact officially in the last month of their contract

Ah, I did not know that at all. So we have nothing to worry about if Conway hasn't signed up by Jan then, unless Real Madrid come calling 😀

Imagine how frustrating it must be. There he is, training & playing with the club, wanting to discuss a contract but being unable to say a word ! I can't imagine how they control themselves.

Afaik agent and club can sketch out a deal with Boros blessings but nothing can be signed till three months before his contract is up. That said there's nothing stopping Boro letting him go for nowt in Jan if they've no intention of keeping him on

I'm just explaining the rules

Brilliant news, now Max can concentrate on doing his best and helping get us promoted. I’m still convinced he will be in a PL team within the next couple of years but at least now we’ll get a proper fee for him, even better if we’re a Championship club.

Reading a lot of replies to the tweets and I don’t get the clamour to have him stuck out on the wing. What a weapon it is and a string to our bow, having a powerful, tall naturally left footed player driving at players and overlapping from full back.

He’s got WAY more attributes to be a modern full back that he has a winger. Especially when we play inverted ones.

The idea isn't to have him as a winger.

It is more of a wide midfielder.

We get done down that side at times if the actual winger isn't dominating.

Solidify that side, and make us more resilient.

Not all the time, but as an alternative when the usual isn't working.

The inverted wide men doesn't always work, and someone playing a more traditional role, putting in crosses and getting shots off, and also defending isn't without merit.

I remember us having Thompson and Sellars both playing wide left. I would describe either of them as wingers in the sense we have now. They weren't particularly quick, but we're part of a cohesive midfield. Could score, cross and defend.

Nowt wrong with having options.

The runs he can do at full back, he won’t be able to do further up the pitch. He doesn’t have that 5 yard Bang that the likes of Gale and ACD have so being on the left of midfield would really limit his effectiveness as he won’t be able to get on the outside of their right back to deliver crosses or shots.

He’s fine where he is

Aye

He's got this far and made a name for himself as a left back

It's not like left wing is a promotion for doing well

There's a reason he's never played further forward, it's not his game

Great signing........would like Taylor to take his place until Gale is fit and Max push up

Great business by the club

Should of said only until Gale is fit and only as a wide midfielder in a 4/3/3

I think most of that chat was pre-Huddersfield, when it looked like we had no left wing option other than Cissoko. And moving Conway up and bringing Taylor in at LB seems a reasonable option.

Now Tutu is back we can stay as we are though with Conway at LB. Clearly is his best position

I'm so excited that with Conway signing this new contract he's turned from an LB who is poor defensively into prime Gareth Bale.

Aye

Not detracting from this being great news - it is fantastic, but let’s not forget, like a lot of our players (most L1 players) he’s had his poor games too (a pub player in one half 😂

Two games prior to Huddersfield he wasn’t great. Huddersfield he looked superb again.

We are going to get this from him every now and again, hopefully he becomes more consistent, which is what will set him apart.

But without doubt there’s a talent there and he’s still so young.

Hopefully we allow him to grow and learn with us which will mean making allowances for him not being prime Bale every game.

As for the winger/FB debate. I’m very much in the @boltonboris camp, I’m hoping we are talking about his fantastic career above L1 with Bolton, which I’m sure will be as left back. That said I wouldn’t mind the odd in-game switch in the 2nd half if we were protecting a lead.

Great news.

I see that at the weekend, our other promising full back , O Smith, has gone out on loan to Halifax. Hopefully he can follow Conways' upward path.

Yes really good news for Ollie but isn’t he normally more of a Centre Back than a Wing Back and was just fitting in there? At least it proves his flexibility either way so good luck to the lad.
