Can they ? I thought once they were on the list , that spot was taken until the next renewal period (Jan in this case).

Isn’t it pretty obvious that Evatt doesn’t rate him whatever we may think or he would have given him a spot? I quite like him but Evatt sees him every day and it’s his judgement that counts. What surprised me was that he didn’t even get a loan move because surely he’s better than many we’ve seen at this level and below?

Read earlier that evatt is saying he expects a busy January window both incoming and outgoing ..  who do we expect to be going out?

Perhaps Forino (when/if) fit has been primed for the Santos role long term.

He’s been shocking when he has played as right-sided centre half. Not holding out much hope after that shocking error in the Arsenal game either.

I see them making the decision on where we are at the time.

Some way off, then cash in.

In with a decent chance, then keep him.

If we were to go up, he may decide to sign anyway.

I mentioned elsewhere, Santos isn't renewing his contract and wants a new challenge. Club obviously hope he will change his mind, but his closest family member was telling anyone who'd listen a couple of weeks ago that he wasn't signing. No falling out with Evatt, just wants something new.

If the club think they can get good money in Jan, it isn't beyond the realms that he gets sold.

Depends on how much someone wants him. Wouldn't cost much, and would avoid competition later.
