4492 might not be enough if we require win/point for promotion but potential TV coverage cocks up advance travel arrangements. I am not whinging more than happy to be in this position. I said pre-season I would be satisfied with mid-table!

Think I went to that nice in the seats it was good day all round

they were hardly seats just planks of wood which got broken up and thrown into the Vale fans below. Always been a naughty fixture at Vale Park

It's must be a miserable time to be a Port Vale fan, nothing to shout about for years whilst Stoke are having probably their best ever spell

Think we will sell 4,500 easy, be great if we got more and sold them, when was our last 5k+ away crowd? Brum in the cup QF?

Carry on the way we are and it could well be a promotion clincher this

Aye, probably Blackburn. Excluding cup games though we've taken some impressive followings to a few places over the years.

The local Lancashire/Gtr Manc usually get the bigger followings but Hull, Stoke, Wrexham, Sunderland have all had decent non-prem league followings, Sheff Weds for 20 mins in the prem had plenty there too

A trip through the archives reveals why this fixture could have added spice.

Turn the clock back to around 84/85 and a few silly Port Vale fans stray into the Manny Road North terrace, and are rather abruptly and viciously dealt with....

Next time they come to Bolton early in the 86/87 season, they come mob handed on the train. I actually am on the same train from Manchester Victoria with them, minding my own business after getting a pair of adidas trainers from Oasis,in the Manc underground market.

They have 100 lads and proceed down Manchester Road with no escort. A good mob of Bolton spill out of the Rose Hill and steam straight up Manchester Road scattering Port Vale's firm everywhere.

One silly Burslem sausage is armed with a plank of 3x2 which is soon taken off him and he gets his just desserts......

Same season, think it was Valentine's Day,the return fixture sees a mob of Bolton in one of their boozers. A spotter from them sporting a PVFC tattoo around his neck is drinking in the pub quietly (one or two on here will know exactly who I mean) but he is actually sussing us out and soon returns with his mates rather mob handed.....

Windows go through, they think they have the upper hand, but our relatively younger firm compared to those lot break out of the pub and go straight into Port Vale's lot,who are tooled up with pool cues, bottles, bricks etc.

The Port Vale crew were guys in their late 20's/early 30's..a bit like their pathetic fashion sense......

Without doubt we scattered them once again, resulting in one of those getting a bit of a "scratch" on his neck, which bar for the actions of a copper who arrived quickly, would have killed the Port Vale fan. Reports later showed he had life saving surgery and also life changing injuries.

During the game, the fucker with the PVFC tattoo around his neck was walking up and down the perimeter of the away end with the old bill trying to pinpoint individuals involved in the attack......a fruitless mission......

After the game, every single Bolton fan was led out in single file whilst being videoed by the local plod....

Bizarrely during the next fixture between us at Vale Park, the guy who nearly lost his life outside the pub, jumped over the segregation and made an utterly futile effort filled with jejune bravado, to get at our lot. He was soon led away in handcuffs past our lot, his scar visible for all to see was virtually ear to ear.

During Euro 2000, I bumped into the twat with the tattoo, that priceless clown was scuffling with Plymouth Argyle fans and was on the receiving end of a kicking off them.....

Anyway, always a lively affair between us and those inbreds.

Safe trip guys and keep your wits about you.

remember their was about 4 or 5 Bolton in the stand just above their lot down the side, they were quickly spotted and the Vale lads were climbing into the stand to get at them, instead of making a hasty retreat they stood their ground making a bloody decent job of it until the old bill appeared and dragged them out.

Got talking to a lad at Southend who got picked out by the tattoo neck Vale fan, you probably know him miami? He spent 3 nights in Stoke nick until they released him without charge. Think he was one of the Walkden lot.
