Didledee Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 The only thing to take from that is it's no where near our best 11, hope the performance doesn't effect morale though, 2 chances for Rashford and Welbeck and very little else. no 3rd sub used, probably wasn't bothered if we lost deep down. Columbia will be tough, they probably don't have James, thought they play well in the 1st half against Japan with 10 men, but poor 2 half, they were very good vs Poland and I didn't think they were great v Senegal.
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted June 28, 2018 Site Supporter Posted June 28, 2018 Rose should stay in instead of Young.
Didledee Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 Rose should stay in instead of Young. It was his fault Belgium scored, but thought he did quite well overall.
stevieb Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 Colombia hopefully fucked after their game. Be reet! It's still on... Reckon Sweden or Switzerland will be tougher than it looks if we get that far.
Didledee Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 Been impressed with Sweden, Switzerland have found themselves being dominated in all their 3 games but managed to get something out of them.
Moderators Casino Posted June 28, 2018 Moderators Posted June 28, 2018 I don't want us to be relying on Arnold dier and Delph anytime soon And if we had another keeper Pickford would be dumped too
Didledee Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 (edited) Doubt TAA will be seen again unless Trippier gets an injury, if he does, keep him off set pieces, utterly woeful tonight. Edited June 28, 2018 by Didledee
Site Supporter Winchester White Posted June 28, 2018 Site Supporter Posted June 28, 2018 Lets be honest, if you swap out 7 players of any team you are going to struggle to maintain any kind of consistency. Both teams didn't want to lose but weren't arsed if they didn't win either.
L/H White Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 Rose to stay and I think RLC has been fantastic in all 3 games so I'd stick with him

Moderators Zico Posted June 28, 2018 Moderators Posted June 28, 2018 Shite that Just hope it's not knocked the best XI off their stride I'd rather be playing japan than columbia next If we don't the daggers will be out for southgate The only reason to want to avoid brazil is if you don't think we can go all the way
Farrelli Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 Eric 'one-Dier' mensional, Jones and Pickford weak links. Rose, Maguire and Loftus Cheek did ok and Rashford was lively but poor finish on the big chance. Belgium clearly have a better squad though and will be a contender to win it.

L16 Columbia, QF Sweden & SF Spain or Croatia If we’d have come top I think we would have had... L16 Japan, QF Mexico and SF Uruguay or Belgium
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted June 28, 2018 Site Supporter Posted June 28, 2018 Also not forgetting it was the first game for most of these. If they were played again I reckon they'd be a bit better.
bolton va va Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 Good team selection,,,,,,,we've got the better draw, protected our more important players & given the squad players some match practice / fitness. We've also found that,....Rose is better than Young & should keep his place. Henderson is far better than Dier, Sterling is a lot better than Rashford ( Rashford might be useful as a sub against tiring defenders, but i'd rather have Vardy as a starter if anything happened to Kane ) Jones is shite.
Underpants Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 No sense of jeopardy about tonight's match. Very underwhelmed with the result. It is what it is and Columbia awaits. Can see us beating that lot then going out in the next round. And that will put a whole new complection on this tournament.
DomRepWanderer Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 Never been as happy at an England loss as I was tonight, I know it's wrong but we get the easiest ( on paper ) route through, Japan was winnable, but after that was a fucker of run of games.
Duck Egg Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 The selection was right but it carried on our habit of losing as soon as we face any quality of opposition. Might temper expectations a bit though

Pretty much my thoughts. He had to rest players, would have been daft not to. I get the momentum thing but that was a different team who now all have a bit of game time going into the KOs. Had we needed to win to get this draw we'd have been buzzing - losing not ideal but we could/should have drawn it. No games are easy but come on, every England fan should be buzzing
Guest Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 We got the better draw and I think ultimately that was important. Colombia are more tricky than Japan and I could see us losing. However, on paper we shouldn't. A reality check to an extent though when Fellaini bosses your midfield. I know it was our second choice, but it was theirs too. And theirs was better than ours. Rose and Trent played well, apart from that the rest were disappointing. Think Pickford should have saved the goal too. Did he go with his wrong hand?
L/H White Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 all this momentum bollocks, Spain lost their first game in 2010, then went on to win the whole thing
Duck Egg Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 all this momentum bollocks, Spain lost their first game in 2010, then went on to win the whole thing We're not Spain. We're not even Portugal!
Guest Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 all this momentum bollocks, Spain lost their first game in 2010, then went on to win the whole thing If we'd played our first team and beaten a 2nd string Belgium but Kane was injured in the process would we have momentum? In a world cup I think each game is its own entity. It makes no odds, Colombia is a tough game and had their group been the other way round and we'd got there via a win it wouldn't change our likelihood of progressing past them one bit.
