You do it just to be a contrary Mary though

Taylor’s effort and attitude at Burton away last season alone should be enough for you not to go out of your way to “protect him”

He hit ubercunt status then

I'm on about the manager protecting him

Are you suggesting somebody came out of Burton with credit?

10 points out of 15, would have snapped that up before we began.

However:-

-5 changes to a winning team

- only 2 players for me with any effort / quality in magennis and ameobi

- midfield non existent, Lowe and Murphy absolute shite

- I am not a big taylor fan, but he did OK on Wednesday, grounds was bloody awful

- going forward no pace and not enough players, surely 1up front against mid table and below teams at home is not the way forward

- they bossed from start to finish and to lose 3 -0 was actually not bad, could have been far worse

Let's be serious about it, we aren't going to finish in the top 6 and we will lose plenty more. All we ask is effort like we have had in the first 4 games.

Rant over, back to the gin.

They are the type of team we struggle to deal with. High pressing team that plays quick passing footbsll with strikers that Run the channels. Absolute nightmare for us. We sit too deep and don't close anybody down.Like watching a premier league team play a Sunday league team. Only Alnwick gets any credit, everyone else poor .They won't get an easier game all season.

Having said that we aren't going to be up against that style every week so we will be fine. I'm confident of a result at Preston.

Not sure how you could claim ameobi and alkowski were poor. Ameobi looked like he was in a Dada v Lads game again. Sublime skills and ball control.

And also, Jonathon Grounds, Jesus wept.

Don’t want to say it, as it was literally his first game, but don’t think he can start again.

Hopefully he just had a bad day, but he was absolutely annihalated today.

I get why you say that, but his passing and forward movement was a class above Taylor today. Drills the passes, doesn't play easy 5 yard passes all the time like Taylor. Defensively similar, not championship standard.

Beaten by the better team. Their 3rd goal was really impressive. I'd of snapped anyone's hand off for the start we have had. Move on and let's do Preston

Fair enough on the protection point

Burton? No. But amongst a shower of shit and bad attitudey shit, he found a way to stand out as being extra shitty

The shrug of his shoulders in front of us towards the end and trot back summed it up

Did the same last season made strange changes

Why drop Taylor not world beater seems strange

Played Wednesday night. He's tired and to be fair to him and O'Neill I feel like these Wednesday night matches are damaging the league as a fair competition. No way is our strongest 11 going to play 2 games at full pelt with 48 hours rest.

Well, that was fooking dire! All over the pitch we were dreadful, Sheff Utd could have won about 6 nil easily.

Luke Murphy? Blimey, he seems to get worse every time I see him play, no wonder we didn't pay a bean for him, even though he was still under contract when we signed him.

I agree on Murphy. I don't get what his role is. Lowe has his faults but we can see what he's all about. Does Murphy tackle, run, pass, shoot, organise? None of the above. Somebody remind me why Henry was released.

Now don’t get me wrong, I loved Henry but his time has been and gone. In order for us to progress, we need better.

Lowe I think fits that bill and O’Neill seems too as well. Hopefully the Everton lad is also a step up.

Still, I’m not in the least bit convinced with Murphy. Will give him time yet

A lot of over reaction here. Christ almighty. It was poor, course it was. Didn’t get to grips with them and could have been a goal down before they did score.

Beaten by the better side, it will happen again before long too. As long as we keep our name out of the bottom 3 by May I’m happy.

FWIW, I thought Grounds and Murphy were poor, Vela never got involved, Buckley disappointing but not surprised. No scapegoats, just a poor performance.

If anyone goes with an old fart called David, sits behind Row U in the ESL and hated Pratley last season, his time is almost up before I butt the moaning prick. Murphy is his latest pick

We will all be happy if we stay out of bottom 3, but that doesn't mean we can't criticise in the meantime. Just as were right to praise the odd good performance last season even though we spent most of it below where we needed to be, it's each game on its own merits and the home games this season have been awful, every bit as bad as last season. We have clearly improved away after 2 games, but we have gone backwards at home. Gaining the Pole and McGennis doesnt compensate for the loss of Robinson, Henry and ALF,

Posted

Left side of defence was the problem, and Vela didn’t have a clue what he was there for apart from doing Nolan arm waving impressions. And Ameoebi needs to find a tackle from somewhere

They were a good side who knew what each other was doing and just passsed the ball around us.

Thankfully we won’t play many teams who play this way again this season.

Change back to the team we had v Brum and get 2 up front and we may have a chance.

I saw Ameobi take the ball off a Sheff U player loads of times in both halves. MOM by a country mile. My brother came from Lincoln for his 1st game since Christmas and he said it's embarrassing how much better he is than everyone else.

I like Taylor

Plenty dont

Somebody on here reckons he was running through quicksand on Wednesday

He was in the box for our goal so clearly it was bollocks but I've no issue protecting him

Its a long season

He got forward well for the goal, finding loads of space and putting an OK cross in. It's when he has an opponent running at him that the quicksand comparison is sometimes valid (and it wasn't me that said that BTW).

Behave. Read that back yourself.

I like ALF and wish we’d kept him but Lowe pisses all over Henry and Olkowski is division better than Robinson. Other side granted and Little has done nothing wrong.

I agree though something has gone backwards at home - or were we just very lucky to win quite a few home games last year? We’ll be fine

No time to over react balance of the team wasn’t right today we’ll see in the next 4 games whether that today was a fluke or the first four games were or more likely it’s this mad league.

He doesn’t fancy Taylor drops him at every opportunity why you’d change a back 4 that’s done so well god knows. Grounds and Murphy were poor but first time I’ve seen em play so early days. Velas under pressure to start games and get a new contract imo the clock is ticking he’s just not influencing games enough and still doesn’t look like we know his best position

Vela has never been championship class, the players in this league are on a different plane. I would compare him to Nicky Hunt, local lad come through to make a career in football but the team happens to be 1 division above their level. He should be a squad player like Noone or Deryk last season but Parky simply over relies on him, it's not Vela's fault.

Massive warning signs been there.

Up to the manager to react.

Expect a week of non training resulting in hoof it football and hoping ameobi can save us.

Look like we have never played together before.

Parkinson style.

I know 5 changes from a winning team looked a strange decision but when you look at the changes individually it’s not that much of a surprise.

O’Neill - 35, getting up to match fitness and apparently pulled his groin

Taylor - blowing out of his arse and scrambling for those gels at 60 minutes at the best of times, it can’t be a surprise that he was rested for a games 3 days later

Ameobi and Buckley - changed the game on Wednesday and most people would have expected them to start today

Vela - possibly the only one that wasn’t needed/expected but still not a surprise to see him come back in

Olkowski better than Robinson agreed, I just mean that we are weakened at left back, we have no recognized goal scorer and Lowe is worse than the 2017 version of Henry, in my opinion. Buckley also seems to be even worse this season. And dare I say it Murphy is possibly worse than Pratley although at least we no longer have the constant stream of free kicks that he conceded. And yes we were very lucky to win many of our games last season and this, we aren't going to dominate any games in this league like sheff u did today.

I agree on a chunk of that. I really don’t see us dominating anyone. We really need a goal scorer too over the next few days.

I’ll agree to differ on the Lowe/Henry debate though. I loved Henry too, I just feel Lowe is better overall.

Correct. Common sense

And had those changes not been made would it have made an ounce of difference?

Not for me. There were too many players that looked lethargic and just generally off the pace today and I don’t think having Taylor at left back or any of the other 4 in would have made a difference.

There were little things in there today like being all over the place defending set pieces which is massively unlike us.

It was an off day, we looked knackered, they were fresh, they are a good team and I don’t think the changes would have made any difference

Posted

Didn't expect much today, Sheff U already about 20 points better team than us, without advantage of having had a free week.

Only Magennis (honest as day is long again), Olkowski (not quite as good as other games but still best of a bad lot) Alnwick (couple of cracking saves) and Ameobi (one of very few who gave them anything to think about) came out of it with any credit

Could see Parky's logic of trying to mitigate against Sheff U's advantage by starting with mostly ones who hadn't played 90 mins on Wed but it didn't work. Murphy and Lowe nowhere near able to screen back four or help mount any attacks of our own. Beevers and Wheater were embarrassed by Clarke and Sharp. Vela never got into game, position didn't suit him.

On Grounds, got done like a kipper defensively a couple of times but preferred him to Taylor going forward, some decent forward passes and couple of good crosses

Overall a dreadful start and a comically bad second goal killed the game inside half hour, second half wandered along till they decided to go up a gear and shred us again.

Hopefully Parky will revert back to something like Brum team for Preston, and throw Williams into mix, we need youth and pace desperately
