MancWanderer Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 One loss out of the first 5 games. Not too shabby. Shame it was against them. If you’d told me we’d lose only one of our first five games, for a start I’d have taken that, and I’d have said it would have been West Brom Move on. So long as it doesn’t become a habit Quote
RUREADY2ROLL Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Dont know about the rest of the game but all three goals came about because of shite marking of players; second was a fluke but he shouldnt have got his shot in. Need to drop Murphy and Vela IMO and give Taylor the shirt back because the two games I have watched he was good Anyway Preston, Preston here we come Quote
marple whites Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Spot on. Used to really annoy me but as you get older and all that. 100% agree, more to life, pay your money, take your choice Quote
jules_darby Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Lots of mentions of the 5 changes Wasn't it pretty much the west brom team? Poss only Taylor, who apparently needs a rest, missing? The changes were sensible and a red herring This was coming And will again Yet we’ll be reet What an improvement on last season still eh Quote
Johnnyrotten Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Plenty pointing the finger at Vela despite him being the only one in a five-man midfield who’d noticed there was a game in progress. Disappointing to see so many shithouses leaving early. Strange how you can attend 99% of home games for 36 years but if you leave in the 86th minute when 3 down you are a shithouse. Or just bored. Or just bored. I think Enzo has gone on a failed fishing trip, he left early himself. I left on 75 mins personally due to it being so shit. Quote
Lostock Whites Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Stadium was empty anyway, from the start. Quote
paulhanley Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 The changes were sensible and a red herring This was coming And will again Yet we’ll be reet What an improvement on last season still eh This is the right attitude. Essentially this year is about staying safe with a bit more comfort than last year. I'd be happy finishing something like 15th. Finishing there in a league table inevitably means some bad days. Saturday was the first of them. As Parky regularly says: "We take it on the chin and move on" Quote
radcliffe white Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Stadium was empty anyway, from the start. more servings like Saturday and they will only go one way Quote
Lostock Whites Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 more servings like Saturday and they will only go one way True. What was worse, is that I know a few people who turned up, who have not been to a game in a lifetime. And they saw that. Quote
Guest Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 True. What was worse, is that I know a few people who turned up, who have not been to a game in a lifetime. And they saw that. Following a football team is all about the highs and lows. Folk that cannot accept that are never going to be Bolton fans. Quote

radcliffe white Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Being 3rd in the league might help though think there was s 500 difference to the reverse fixture last season and that was on a Tuesday night. Quote
MickyD Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Anyway Preston, Preston here we come That bit just reminded me about life in the Lever End and Burnden Paddock where we seemed to spend ages chanting "If you're going to <inset name of next away venue> clap your hands. Good grief, and we scoff at today's offering of terrace chants. Quote

Like yesterday Really struggling with getting to Preston Saturday though - idiots fucking up the route from London but I could go 'home' to Worcester Friday neet and go from there. Not good no matter which way I look at it So if anyone wants a half price ticket then let me know Quote

Johnnyrotten Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Following a football team is all about the highs and lows. Folk that cannot accept that are never going to be Bolton fans. There are loads of 'Bolton fans' that go to only 2 or 3 games a season. They are still supporters but they just don't want to attend because it feels a waste of an afternoon, devoid of excitement. I am a Lancs cricket fan but I rarely attend partly because it might be boring on the day. I am partisan enough not to take that into account for BW home games but plenty of people want to be entertained, so won't watch a Parky team. Quote

Personally I think it’s a crock of shit when people don’t go because of the style of football or whatever. If you still don’t enjoy the day and the whole experience of following your team then you’re going with the wrong people. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Equally, if it's good football you don't have to be trollied etc to have a good time. We all have different reasons for 'enjoying' a game, but shite like that isn't going to appeal to next generation supporters. I took lad and his mate and all three of us were totally bored, frustrated etc. I can accept getting beaten, providing that the team has given what it can. Didn't get that, and couple it with the same tedious approach to winning matches at home and it's like pulling teeth. Ken's miles away from his 20000 crowds. Quote
MickyD Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Everyone of us in the singing bit of the burnden paddock joined in that and clapped their hands, nobody would admit to not going! Especially when the <inset name of next away venue> happened to contain the syllables Mill and Wall. Quote

The old Entertainment v Three-points-above-all-else argument. I'm firmly in the three points camp. I'd feel much better walking to the car after a dour and scrappy 1-0 victory than the sit-on-the-edge of your seat 4-5 defeat. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 That's the usual either or argument Micky. Sadly over the season, playing drab, unadventurous football won't be overly successful. Can be defensively solid but still need to have an attacking threat and desire to win. Being able to control a ball and put a few passes together would be a start. Quote
Casino Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Some folk can't wait to have a whinge If dull adventurous football keeps us in a league where 7 million buys a striker with less than 10 goals, needs must Quote

If we were top of the table at Christmas playing "Parky" football, do you think folk would stay away? Absolute fucking bollocks. They'd be queuing up to get in. Absolute horse shit all this 'style of play' argument as are the plethora of statistics we are battered with these days. One stat and one stat only matters. Which team put the ball in the net most over 90+ minutes. Quote
