This is softening people’s expectations on just how bad this actually is. I can’t stress just how bad this really is words escape me. I’m depressing myself thinking About it!! Im all for #2 at a level that protects the NHS, as #1 and #3 are not viable, but the response to BD was more in mind that he keeps posting links that suggest lockdown is a farce and not needed But i think (hope) for all the time the government makes us wait then they will offer support via furlough help, business grants etc Anyway, as we've always been a few weeks behind other countries now really is the time to watch and learn Quote

But they aren’t and can’t be open ended. They have to end sooner rather than later. There will be very heated discussions in the cabinet about this very matter. And rishi will be ageing years everyone day. It’s the same balance as most of us agreed early on and still do. Lives against economic health. mate of mine just text on this subject saying he heard someone saying more lives will be lost from poverty and stress caused by the economic effects of this than the virus itself. That could well become a fact Quote

I know we're on an economic downturn but I just wondered if the unique circumstance we find ourselves in might offer an advantage compared to other recessions (the furlough scheme ensuring people temporarily stay employed, the government offering loan garauntees, etc.). Unfortunately, It sounds like it's the opposite, though. And in a unprecedented way. Difficult times ahead. It'll be reet. I think the economies will bounce back faster than in most recent recessions. There's no underlying financial bubble that's burst this time (granted there will be more debt). Stock markets trade on confidence, I think they'll boom when we get good news. Lots of businesses are digital so can start up quickly. Might be totally wrong, hope not. Quote

Aye, my thinking to a degree is so what if virgin airlines go bust At some point their planes and pilots will be needed And if people can't holiday abroad, we can do UK holidays which will be good for us too And if they can't then we're probably heading for post apocalyptic scenes like in The Road Quote

ErnestTurnip Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 In oddly positive news, we've had the best first week in May that we've ever had sales wise at work, and we're related to people getting back working so folk are making their own minds up. Or alternatively folk are buying because they are bored and just buying, buying, buying like my frigging missus on Amazon. Quote

Council tennant so house is in no danger. Going off what we were told by the Universal Credit today we can probably get by on that income as our self employed income is fuck all at the mo. Realistically we need to do a version of number 2 the question will be when and how. Bojo and his cronies will have a very tough job on their hands. I'm not confident they won't fuck it up though going off past experience. Quote

It’s not just hospitality sector. It’s all sectors. Everyone is affected by this and will be massively impacted. I do agree this isn’t like a normal recession and as such we do have the ability to bounce back quickly so that is spot on. Problem is Our starting position is much worse. think of it like like this. Normal recession you start on -12. After this we are - 50. It’s a long road back chaps. But we will achieve it but the scale of the deficit is now what we need to manage. At some point the points deduction just becomes to big and there is human collateral damage Quote

Rudy Posted May 7, 2020 Author Posted May 7, 2020 I’ve wrote Boris’s speech for Sunday. ”Good Evening, I want to say thank you to the NHS and the key workers who have kept this country going. Thank you to the majority of the Great British People for adhering to the lockdown restrictions. Unfortunately there a few bad apples in the orchard and they cannot be trusted because tattoo Stan and vest top Brenda will be pit in full force down Blackpool beach so I say this message clear and once again Stay in your homes again you bunch of dicks Big Bozza signing off “ Quote
Traf Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 For every single company that goes bump, there's a knock on effect in local communities. The Virgin staff losing their job will have less money to spend, so local shops etc lose revenue and so on. There's no silver lining to any firm going bump. Quote

And when a lot of these firms go bump they aren’t the size of these big companies and there is normally the odd one. There will be a huge amount going pop or cutting half a work force to restructure the business. These are to use a cliche unprecedented times Quote

Escobarp Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 I was down by the sea before and each day I’m amazed by how clear it is. The water is crystal clear. Normally a murky colour. If there is anything good to come out of this it has to be people’s desire to have a cleaner planet. Quote
Rudy Posted May 7, 2020 Author Posted May 7, 2020 I’ve said it before but the air is clearer, it feels fresher Quote
