Rudy Posted May 7, 2020 Author Posted May 7, 2020 I don’t understand anti vaxxers in this case, I mean I don’t understand them anyways but they have their ‘reasons’ for ones for their kids but I’m struggling to understand why you wouldn’t want a vaccine for a global pandemic. Quote
Spider Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 Much giddiness already about Sunday’s announcement. Initial instinct is that we’re about to utterly fuck this up and end up locked down again by September. Hope I’m wrong. Quote

On Monday she lost a second member of her close team to the virus. Apparently both nurses were relatively young and neither had any pre existing conditions. Took my daughter to hospital for blood tests today and the staff who are normally so upbeat looked completely beaten. Release the lockdown too quickly now and it won’t just be the elderly who are dying in the coming weeks. As someone else pointed out earlier, I hope the people pushing for an end to the lockdown now keep their mouths well and truly shut if things go to shit again in a few weeks time. They will be the first to blame the Government. Like Austerity & The best Football League in the World, Lockdown is something that The British think we have, but in reality don't. Spain & Italy are now relaxing their lockdown to where we are now. Easing Restrictions now will cost lives. The Govt got it wrong by not enforcing a stricter lockdown, I hope they don't double down by relaxing too early. Quote

But it’s also exactly what we thought would happen anyway in terms of the lockdown , release and then lockdown cycle is it not? So not a surprise? I’m happy to continue with my life as is at the moment. That said from an economic point of view it really is getting dire and if it was affecting me financially or Potentially long term career wise I would likely be pushing To get back to something more normal as well Quote

I know our government (small g) is different than in Germany but there it sounds like individual regions have been given permission to break from their overall exit strategy and reintroduce localised lockdown if cases spike again in certain areas. I wonder how or if the same could be done here or whether once you open pandoras box (tabloids today reporting like weve all been released from jail for example) that it'd be impossible to say something like sorry Greater Manchester you have to restart lockdown but Lancashire is fine. Probably be a civil war in Bolton over which region we are in! Quote

Impossible to enforce that scenario of regionalization as you highlight Quote

I miss the pub, restaurants etc, but these need to stay categorically shut. It’s an awfully tough decision for the govt., but people will take the piss and fuck it up. Quote
ErnestTurnip Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 It's obvious that a lot of folk are making their own rules up now like thinking it's ok to go and see your friends and family as long as you stay 2m apart. The problem with workers though is if they were furloughed on March 23rd and the furlough/claim cycle lasts 3 weeks then surely they can't go back into work until May 25th or their employer will end up not being able to claim for some weeks ? He’s announcing it this Sunday I imagine so that employers have a week to decide how to get their people back to work. I expect 60/70% of the workforce will be off furlough from the 25th. Quote
Casino Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 Think i see what you mean I think you can be furloughed for 4,5,6,7 etc weeks Its just got to be a minimum of 3 week blocks So, if we get some back in next week, then they go off again, its a minimum 3 weeks off Quote
ErnestTurnip Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 I don't think you can, would love to know for sure and would also be helpful if I was totally wrong. We unfurloughed someone last week who was furloughed on the 30th and the advice we got was that we would end up not being able to claim for a week for him - he'd get 30/03 06/04 13/04 and then we'd not be able to claim for 20/04 as he was back in on 27/04. Will they get 3 weeks of the £2,500 pro-rata off the govt? Quote

Stricter lock down may have worked. Similarly more may have railed against it We can never truly know either way. One thing that has come out of it, is the large amount of selflessness and community spirit that is there within the population. And on the flip side, a significant amount of selfishness, and self entitled cuntishness and folk always wanting to pin fault on someone else. Quote
peelyfeet Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 Germany will lockdown regionally again, if they see more than 50 new infections per 100,000 population in a week. I'm assuming there will be a target for tests per population too. To put that in perspective, that would be 100 new infections in a week In Bolton before restrictions started again. I think we are more than double that in the NW at the moment, I'm assuming with much less testing than Germany, I'll see if I can get the stats from anywhwere. Quote

jayjayoghani Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 I think if you lockdown severely and it works, you can just point at other countries. NZ and Australia do this with Europe, particularly UK. The UK's big issue is you've locked down and still >30k have died. Quote

The population is not as dense in NZ as the UK (population 50% of London, Size greater than UK). And I'm guessing the population is not as dense in NZ as the UK. See the street parties tomorrow for evidence. When you have discussions such as 'How far am I allowed to travel for a takeaway, Which Garden Centres are open' I'm not sure you have lockdown. Quote
