I suppose the counter argument is that the reason they "only" get 100k combined is because that's what their grounds hold.  If they held 200k they'd still fill them, and the rest.  And that's without including how many watch by other means, in this country and around the world (sadly).  Most clubs outside that elite level have to offer cheap tickets to attract more fans, no such issues for them, they can charge what the hell they want and if locals don't buy them, foreign tourists will.

Yes, he was terrible.  I think they had Dale Taylor there last year and he was outstanding.  Also they had Aasgaard last year and their lack of physicality this year was a massive difference.

Their best player for me was Wright, he only came on as sub, but he looked quality in the last half hour.  I looked him up and he played for SS (and Rooney, and Muslic) at Plymouth, he's only on loan at Wigan.  We could make worse signings if Plymouth don't want him, he started when Plymouth beat Liverpool last year.

Grant spent significantly more than Schumacher in the summer. They allegedly outbid us on one or two. Expectations and costs are high.

Yes its a thin dividing line between success and failure in some games.  If Huddersfield had got a corner in the 92nd minute instead of Cogley earning a goal kick, SS has picked the wrong team, and he needs to change formation away from home.  And Dalby is still useless, and no end product from ACD.

SS didn't necessarily pick the "right" team, or the wrong team previously.  He can't influence those moments that define if a goal is going to be scored, or conceded.  Or something like that, I'm not articulating it very well at this time of night, but so much of it is down to a lot of factors and who gets picked is just one ingredient.

Must admit, in the euphoria of such a great win, I’ve probably gone OTT on doling out some praise - probably most telling saying how SS picked the right side as if it’s now a provable fact, when it so easily would have been derided as a shocking selection, if we didn’t win.

The reality this season has been win, select the same/similar side, don’t win!

Thats why the back to back win is so important.

But if defeats are going to get pinned on SS not choosing the right side and getting his formation/tactics wrong, then it’s only right he gets some credit after a fantastic win?

While we are still playing well, creating lots of chances to win games and good to watch on the eye (see  Huddersfield comments), I hope the comments that fall into the negative extreme, can be stifled, especially when there are, as you say, so many fine margins.

I suppose the only understandable and acceptable way that is going to happen is if you win games!

The fine margins are a good reason why the crew of HMS Piss the League need the occasional word of caution, even though it will invariably get the knee jerk “stop being so negative” response.

But as you, Johnny and others rightly point out there are so many variables in a game of football there are no guarantees. 

That said, really top sides consistently find a way to overcome adversity by playing so much better than the opposition that they can generally cope with the setbacks of poor refereeing, freak goals, worldies or bad luck with the run of the ball  - and still find a way to win. But in this league, there isn’t much difference between the sides so it’s much more of a lottery.

Still, fans will continue to call out players and managers one day and deify them the next even though a lot of what happens on a football pitch comes down to chance.

I agree with the last point. I don't think the former (being 'good to watch') will ever outweigh winning games when the goal is to get 90+ points and promotion. We just haven't won nearly enough and we're far enough into the season now where it can't all be put down to fine margins.

It's a euphoric way to win a game, but it's still one win against a disappointing midtable side (as those comments show). And another where we've conceded the first goal away - which has happened in a frankly ridiculous 14 of 17 games under SS.

We still need to win at least 22 of the remaining 33 to go up. I think it's fair enough to wait until a few more of those have been ticked off until we can revel in our great attacking play.
