Promoted from CBE & DBE to become Knight and Dame respectively.

Wasn’t the request for Nat Lofthouse to be elevated to Sir Nat greeted with the response they don’t ‘promote’ civil honours for the same thing they were given the earlier award?

Whilst not particularly arsed what titles Mr and Mrs Kenny hold, what, beyond cycling, have they done to deserve the elevated honour that Nat remained unqualified for?

My ex wife worked for the DCMS, you are correct they dont 'promote' for the same thing.

But what Jason and his wife have done since their first honour surpasses what they were awarded for. So essentially it's a new honour for their achievements overall in the sport.

He'll always be Sir Nat in my eyes.

Well done the Kennys

He'll always be Sir Nat, and the bloke who, with Charlie Wright was moving tables at a function at Burnden I went to.

The Kenny's achievements are more international and varied and seen by more people in this day and age.

Like Micky says, not the awards that the Kennys have got, but what Sir Nat didn't get that pains.

And still wouldn’t do his hair for the ceremony

If I was Rishi Sunak I'd get four or five backbenchers together get a cheap Wahl clipper set from Asda and jump the scruffy rascal, pin him down and give him a number zero. Get a few digs in too - including a kick in his tiny bollocks.

We don’t talk about that.

Just try and blame iraq on Boris or brexit. Do keep up Stevie

What else did he do except have a massive mouthed wife and get D:Ream back in the charts.

Absolute sham of an award.

Happy the Kennys have got theirs. They both seem lovely and dedicated entirely to their sport.

Defeffal is going to piss in empty milk bottles and courier it 'oop north' so you can douse your kids in it and call it holy water.

Invoking a twat from almost twenty years ago?

Sulaiman wouldn't bat an eyelid about sending folk to die in some fly-blown shithole if he thought it'd save his useless hide. The fucking scruffy mess. Ending up kipping in a car with his barely legal wife or sending troops to some meaningless place so his missus can spunk thousands on gold wallpaper and they doss down in Downing Street a bit longer - because he's a useless tramp. He's not 'Boris' either he's a fucking twatface.

Alexandre Sulaiman Pettigrew Defeffal Boris Johnson.

Hated by his own siblings.

The contrived shit hair prick.

Blair - Not just an ordinary knighthood, but a Companion of Honour:

The Companion of Honour is a special award granted to those who have made a major contribution to the arts, science, medicine, or government lasting over a long period of time. The members, of which there are 65 at any one time, currently include actress Dame Maggie Smith, Lord Coe, Stephen Hawking, John Major and Desmond Tutu.

Sometimes regarded as a junior class of the Order of Merit (see here), the Order of the Companions of Honour was founded by George V in 1917 to recognise services of national importance. Non-British nationals, including Commonwealth figures, can be honorary members of the Order, and count as additional to the main 65.

Very few people receive both the Order of Merit and the Companion of Honour, but these have included Sir Winston Churchill and Sir David Attenborough.

A couple of spaces there

By Royal appointment?

And Tony Blair is knighted, being appointed to the Order of the Garter.

Unlike the main New Year Honours list, which is advised on by the prime minister's office, the Order of the Garter is a royal appointment.

The former prime minister said it was "an immense honour" and he was "deeply grateful to Her Majesty the Queen".

To be fair, he achieved a huge amount domestically.

He's continued working in various roles since too, and presumably the award is for continued efforts since his PM days.

Whether or not folk agree with his politics is not relevant- that's not what the award is about.

Id say sorting out Northern Ireland is worthy of a knighthood tbh.

Never get the Blair bashing. The whole world was baying for blood after 9/11. We smashed Al Qeida, nobbled Bin Laden. We were always going to follow our closest allies in to Iraq. All these right leaning folk pontificating about it now weren't so vocal at the time.

Add to that the the state of schools and education before he took over. The investment was unprecedented.

Good thing on the BBC last month-ish - four episodes iirc, probably on iPlayer.

It must have been a quandary - remove a monster and embitter a whole nation many of whom were initially glad they were rid of him.

If they were serious after 9/11 Saudi Arabia should've been the first on the list to go after - Instead George W was playing holdy hands with the King.

Never had a problem with doing Sadam.

Yes, technically, it was illegal, because the UN wouldn't back the resolution. We know why that was though.

Biggest problem was the false information and David Kelly etc. Left a sour taste with many. Not sure we'll ever get the full story. Not in our lifetimes anyway.

The insurgency was largely led by non-Iraqis.

Who just saw a void where they could have a pop at America and Britain.

You'd think a clever bloke like Blair would've read 'Leviathan'.

How many killed in Afghanistan and for what?

Benny from Crossroads could've predicted the outcome of that.

A clusterfuck and Bolty's right we should have left well alone.

Invade Iraq but arm Saudi Arabia - nuts.

The only time I didn't abstain was 1997 - the 1st G.E. I was eligible to. It ended with that.

Someone once asked in the HOC how many had kids in the military - fuck all.
