None of this is good for the renewable market.

People simply won’t invest £10-20k on a renewable system for their house when times are hard.

Its almost like the big energy companies know this and are the architects of the current issue.

But that’s one for the conspiracy folk…

Of course folk cutting their cloth makes buying heat pumps less likely.

On the other hand, it makes the case for renewable far more cost beneficial. Green leccy is now cheaper than gas made.

A top bod from one of the energy firms was on the other day, explaining how it will benefit the green energy sector and he argued similar hikes earlier would have pushed the market that way, and we'd be further down the road to energy independence now.

He was also critical of the fact that too few people shop around and consider alternative companies. (Not so relevant now, but you can see his point).

Not entirely in agreement with him as you can push too much too soon.

There is an issue though with the ccl apparently still being applied to energy created by clean, renewable sources, which does seem a bit daft.

Of course they perhaps can't cut too much because if everyone tried to switch there isn't yet enough renewable capacity to meet demand, so keeping some on to ensure further expansion might be understandable, but at the moment easing it a little would help reduce prices.

Anyway, £150 in April is better than I expected.

Them council tax bands are messed up in some parts not very consistent

It's worth checking. I once had a firm cold call on us, explaining that some in pur area may be based wrongly. They did the legwork, and it cost nothing if no "win".

I signed up, and bingo! Ours was the only house in the street in the wrong band.

Been over banded since inception. We got all overpaid money back, including that of previous owners. Paid them a wedge of course, but I wasn't expecting anything.

France have put their bills up by 4%

Because they nationalised the govt have more control (didn’t think that sort of thing happened in the EU, assumed they all had to do the same thing…)

Ironically, it doesn’t stop French energy  companies owning companies abroad.

Like, for example, they own most British ones.

The British ones aren’t controlled by the government.

Therefore, we are subsidising the French population who aren’t seeing their bills being tripled.

But, you know, blue passports don’t come cheap.

Dear me.

They're comparatively pants.

A lot of investment still needed over there.

We're way ahead.

Once we've got into the territory of Norway, and our electricity is free from ccl, we'll be in a good place comparatively.

Visionary governments for many years here have seen the way to go.

So why are French households getting a 4% increase, and our is 54%?

Visionary is very subjective.

Remember, the "visionaries" on here were taters deep in Boris Johnson not very long ago. They seem to have either gone to ground or changed their minds.
