I don't see how Sam's going to get a team as incapable as Leeds are of shutting up shop to suddenly start doing it.

5–4-1

He’s probably on £100k a game with a £2/3mill bonus if they stay up.

Worth every penny if he does it.

if we assume you need at least 36 points and that Southampton are down as they have to win all 4 to reach that, it leaves

Everton - 29 points
Brighton (a)
City (h)
Wolves (a)
Bournemouth (h)

Forest - 30 points
Southampton (h)
Chelsea (a)
Arsenal (h)
Palace (a)

Leeds - 30 points
City (a)
Newcastle (h)
West Ham (a)
Spurs (h)

Leicester - 30 points
Fulham (a)
Liverpool (h)
Newcastle (a)
West Ham (h)

West Ham - 34 points
City (a)
Utd (h)
Brentford (a)
Leeds (h)
Leicester (a)

West Ham should be ok, but those are tricky fixtures when you chuck in Europa Conference semis and maybe a final too

Chelsea not safe yet

They could bring in 10 managers and I'd still struggle to see how they'll get anything against City and Newcastle but they may get something from West Ham and Spuds. Thing is Forest, Everton and Leicester also have difficult games so unless one of them step up or Leicester crumble they should survive by the skin of their teeth anyway.

Going off tonight they're going to have to hope 39 will be enough

Could it happen? There’ll be few burst blood vessels in Yarkshire!

🤣🤣🤣

Marvellous news. Big Sam back in the public eye just makes the world seem a better and more balanced place.

Just watch Putin beat a hasty retreat now.

£3 million to keep up a team that aren't in the bottom 3 - more realistically beat West Ham and not lose to Spuds.

Hope the deal is he gets fuck all if he fails - Leeds have some decent players and all he has to do is teach them to close their legs. Easy money.

That said, Nobby is back as first team coach at West Ham so he'll know exactly what the plan will be.

Wonder if he’ll be Leeds final manager of this season?

Sammy Lee has got jury service so won't be joining as assistant

Just heard Karl Robinson is joining him.

Has there been a link before?

Seems pretty random.

Spoke to a Leeds supporting mate last night. He was quite pragmatic about the appointment but when pressed about long term; not a chance. He was very much a “do a job and then go” type. Rather like every other rescue job he’s done.

To be honest, I really don’t get that most want the short term rescue package but nobody wants him to be associated with their club beyond successful rescue.

Wonder what he was doing after neighbours was canned

There doesn’t seem to be a “long term” in the prem, just very short term.

He's tarred with that brush now, he's the "super sub" of Managers - I think the fact he's done reasonably well at keeping clubs up goes for him, but beyond that, other than when he was at Bolton, he's never really set the world on fire. My mate who is a Palace fan hated him and was very pleased when he eventually left.

As GD says, there's no such thing as long term now in the Premier League - fair play to him if he can keep getting these little paydays every year or so, easy money for him.

The obvious first thing he needs to do is try and tighten them up at the back, so I'd expect him to go with only one up front, and try and flood the midfield, possibly even try five at the back - it certainly won't be pretty, but it might just be effective. Leeds have been quite gung-ho going forward of late, and just leave huge gaps all over the place, he'll be stopping that I'm sure, and they'll not be as attack minded. Also, if you're relying on Bamford for goals to keep you up, then you really do have your work cut out.

I suspect that Man City and Newcastle will pretty much be write offs, it's the West Ham and Spurs games they'll be targeting, and he'll be needing to get at least 4pts from those I'd have thought.

I would like them to go down, along with Everton (assuming Southampton have already pretty much gone)
