paulhanley
We need to keep churning out the wins against the Burtons/Fleetwoods etc. We've got to be absolutely relentless in that regard. No more Carlisle, Wigan, Bristol Rovers (h) type results. If we do that we afford ourselves the luxury of draws being OK when it comes to Derby/Barnsley/Peterborough/Stevenage away. Pompey will probably bounce back but Oxford are melting a bit and I still think Peterborough have a bit of the self-destruct about them. Barnsley are the dark horses who'll probably gather pace as winter moves to spring. We've still to play them twice. Another key week is Blackpool (a) and Wigan (a) within days of each other. Potential trip wire games the pair of them.

Seemed to be no arguments. Didn't see it, so I don't know, but I think it's just worth appreciating the quality of the finish and confidence for the striker, even if it doesn't count. Closer than it looked in real time, I thought it was quite obviously off when they showed the replay last night and had no complaints. Looking at that I’m not sure, Charles’ foot is off the ground so isn’t actually on the line and both the ball and the central defender’s foot are only about 6 inches short of the line. Probably one that VAR would give off by a toenail but even if it proved it was on (and therefore we’ve been wronged) I’d still rather have it this way and not have it involved at all. Leyther_Matt
Can I be the wanker who suggests that Charles’ shadow suggests he’s further from the 18 yard line than the picture first appears? Thought it was a harsh call watching live (for once being stood outside the touchline at that shithole actually gave a decent angle) and if anything that looks even tighter! Would like to think such an early goal would have put us on easy street although of course that is far from guaranteed with us recently. Maybe even a draw at Pompey. Both very doable. It’s ok you questioning the histrionics following the two lost games but we could be 3 or 4 points better off and still with a game in hand. I know which I’d rather have. I'd rather we won every single game 6-0, so I'm an even better fan than you.

He went early and stayed there. I'd be hopping if we'd conceded those goals. The second was piss poor messing about. The first ... Well done by Dion but ffs defenders. Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted December 30, 2023 Site Supporter Share Posted December 30, 2023 The second goal almost seems to happen in slow motion. The cross is played in early, but there isn't a lot of pace on it. Brilliant dummy and clinical finish, but none of the players appear to be moving particularly quickly. Was it a feature of the weather?

Good effort! If thats definitely as the ball is kicked, its more off than it looked in motion, but its still marginal No way lino is certain imo
tomski
Did anyone see the Plymouth Southampton disallowed/first goal. Clearly wrong but brilliant emotions (Plymouth fans aside) that VAR knobbers are killing. Brilliant viewing
Wanderlust
I think Dion was just offside but it was close. It could be said he should have held his run, but that's so difficult when he's trying to see past/through the defender he needs to get ahead of so I guess he just gambled on the cross being delivered a fraction earlier. Main thing is that he continues to make the runs and his part in the two goals that came later was outstanding. We're lucky to have a striker who has both a bit of quality and such an excellent workrate.

For completeness below are screenshots of just before and just after the cross is made and he looks marginally offside in both. Tin pot teams, tin pot support in tin pot grounds. Hindered by the weather of course but the atmosphere was like watching a friendly and result apart it was not an enjoyable experience. Thankfully we enjoyed Blackpool in the afternoon. Blackpool was great yesterday. Think I just missed you in spoons

That said it seems harsh to sack him after a defeat to a top team. I understand the Sunderland sacking because we absolutely battered them and their fans have massive expectations, but Fleetwood? They're going to have easier games than us so I'd have thought they'd have given him a bit more time. Presume they want to do it before it gets too late.
