When Santos is stood there like a lighthouse with his foot on the ball facing a packed midfield unwilling to come forward, what does the manager do? Tell Santos to run forward? Spread the play wide? Change the formation? Get the forwards to move more? It's our achilies heal and could well be the managers downfall. Whatever the solution he needs to spend all summer thinking how we are going to break down packed lines, becasue after 3 seasons in, oppositions will be turning out week after week with the same game plan as Oxford. I still wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat shouting “give it to Ogbeta!” Midfield three were completely marked out of the game which left acres of space out wide but Toal wasn’t capable of playing that way and Santos was being the worst version of himself. We can certainly do worse things than hit Collins and Charles in the channels, mind. Quote

We don't get many of them players in L1. Collins and Bod probably the only others I looked forward to watching (can't count CMG due to lack of games), maybe Sheehan if absolutely on top of his game. We've lost 2 of our most technically gifted players and I hope we get at least one in this summer to provide a spark, it doesn't mean we'll get any more points but let's have something to be enthused by. No fear that CMG won’t deliver the goods if he stays fit… and he’ll not be bottling tackles, ducking out of headers and failing to track. Quote

We were despite our shortcomings a hares breath away from promotion. It's those rigid subs and sticking to plan to the bitter end are his downfalls for me. Hairs breadth. Quote

Whenever I think about how we might beat the better teams, I find it hard to look beyond the limitations imposed by the importance placed on how well JDC and Williams play. It feels like we're hamstrung by that formation, in the absence of an outstanding player like Bradley or even Fossey. We are all talking about who we might sign, but if there's a quality winger or full back available, we are simply not in the market for them. Morais at his peak wouldn't get in our squad, Dapo had to go, Sadlier etc. It feels like we are restricted; "tweaking" the system seems inadequate as we won't have the players in the squad to play a different system, JDC and Williams are 2 guaranteed starters from the squad as it stands and the better opposition will continue to relish the predictability of how to nullify us. JDC wasn't the first choice target last summer so maybe we'll look for another RWB I'd be more than happy if we signed Ashworth Quote

Nothing against CMG, but he's a bit part player who did his achilles in February. Anyone who thinks he's going to replace Maghoma next season is living on another planet. If he can get close enough to fitness to be an option off the bench at the business end of next season, he'll have done brilliantly. Quote

Bloody Hell, that goes into a whole lot of psuedo detail simply to say an Achilles injury is a bastard & takes a long time to recover, & many never, really, do. Which, I think, most of us know already. Quote

As he didn't play much, we can't really judge how good he would be for us. He suffered a couple of injuries so I don't understand how that makes him a bit part player- he simply wasn't available. Once he started playing, he did well. Assuming he can get back to full fitness, we can only judge him then. I liked the look of him, and he finished his chances in different ways. Just hope he can get back. Quote

Fair play, I agree about Maghoma bottling headers, tackles and tracking back. Not as a rule but there were certainly occasions where that happened. He cost us a goal in the play offs against Barnsley. . . . . . But he adds more than we lose with him, and to suggest ‘no fear’ about CMG is hard to evidence based on a few performances. If CMG does come back, he’s unlikely to play as a midfielder anyway. Evatt fancies him upfront Quote

He started three league games from August to the end of February. That makes him a bit part player, quite clearly. I didn't say he was shit, but it's a ridiculous leap to say he's going to replace Maghoma based on 380 minutes of football. Plus he's unlikely to be fully fit at any point next season, and he plays in a different position. But other than that... Quote
