DazBob Posted April 29, 2025 Posted April 29, 2025 The amount of advertising for bookies on TV and radio is ridiculous. I can't begin how hard it must be to be an addict when you've got so much advertising surrounding you. I know bookies have to put x amount of adverts out there to remind us to 'gamble responsibly' but I can't imagine that does any good whatsoever. Quote
boltonboris Posted April 29, 2025 Posted April 29, 2025 Fred Done (BetFred) lives within walking distance of me and if you saw his gaff, you'd realised why I don't bet. I'm too tight to give my hard earned to a billionaire blood sucker who preys on peoples misfortune. I used to have a couple of quid on Acca's etc, but spoke to a guy who used to work for above mentioned property business. T&C's of some betting companies allow access to your online banking via open banking and they know when you've been paid. They know when your circumstances change and they know when to bleed you and when to block you by stacks and stacks of carefully put together data about what you're most likely to bet on. If they don't like what they think you'll do, they'll stop you from doing it before you even know you're going to. They are absolute scum-bags and whilst I don't necessarily agree that gambling should be banned per se, I think it needs to be way more heavily regulated. Credit checks (proper ones rather than just checking for CCJ's or bankruptcies) and no advertisements anywhere. Pitch side, footy shirts, TV etc. Trouble is, most of these owners and CEO's are incredibly wealthy, have various businesses in different industries and have friends in high places Quote

During an televised English football match you see the word BET on average every 20 seconds A betting company logo appears 3600 times during ONE premier league game and it's not much better inside the stadium. Ani Posted April 29, 2025 Posted April 29, 2025 Sharon’s stance on gambling is pretty principled. But Golden Goal and lotteries are ok which is a bit strange. Quote

Reckon that's why the signal is so shit on a match day, can't throw money away on bad bets if you can't get the site to load? Quote

Winchester White Posted April 29, 2025 Posted April 29, 2025 I once had a windfall many years ago so thought fuck it why not bet on a few things with free money. All was OK and ticking along but had a couple of big losses (to me anyway, I've always been a bit of a skinflint) and near miss that a kind soul off here helped me fix so I thought fuck it. I cashed all out and closed them all down. Only fairly recently have I started to bet again as I had a dormant Skybet account that had 40 odd quid in it. So I have been playing with that this last year or so, just a quid here and there, mainly losing on Bolton 😅 Quote
Ani Posted April 29, 2025 Posted April 29, 2025 Gambling is gambling her stance is based on ex hubby having gambling issues she said in an interview. The kiosks in the ground were only taking small bets. I used to do £20 on a game and the guy told me it was biggest he had taken. I have no problem with having bookies in ground or not it is her choice but if you speak to I guess any gambling addiction charity lotteries etc are a no no. Obviously low risk. It is like having a no drugs policy but allowing weed. Quote

Spider Posted April 29, 2025 Posted April 29, 2025 Just checked my Skybet and was stunned to find out I’m just over £300 up on the year. I don’t feel like I am. Quote
