It certainly does look like they'll be inverted, though that naturally reduces/slows down getting to the by line and crossing in early. 

Doesn't seem to fit with the idea of having a big centre forward to attack those crosses.

SS did mention about using him to hold up the ball though, which perhaps suggests he's also looking for these wide players to play off him, and look to score goals.
