Egerton was on the drive home from Burnden , was full of Wanderers and some proper characters , IIRC a lad called Daz who had a barbers shop on a main road in Bolton , a stockey lad with curly hair called Bodey and a truck driver called Ivan that everyone seemed to be scared of but was a really nice fella . Think the landlord got booted for something dodgy and everyone seemed to move down to the Globe . Next thing I know Boddies had been watered down to about 3.4% and was never drunk again . Shame really . When I first started going out drinking, at the end of 1979 / start of 1980s there were scores of Boddies pubs around and the bitter was a proper, full-on pint, as Holts bitter was at that time. One of my first Boddies pints was in the Lamb Inn on Oldham Rd, Failsworth, served from the old metered electric pumps, a fascinating thing for a young novice drinker Quote

Lovely head on it too with a sparkler on the taps. freds dad Posted September 13, 2025 Posted September 13, 2025 My first ever pint in a pub was a pint of Boddies in the Halfway House in Farnworth in 1979 when I was still at school. Even at a ripe young age it tasted delicious and now Boddies is back. https://themanc.com/food-and-drink/boddingtons-is-back-on-draught-taps-in-greater-manchester-north-west-return/ Quote

A lot of those tend to be closed on a weekend. Feels a bit ‘central’, too. Quote
