snowball Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Think a centre half has to have positional sense and an intelligent reading of the game before speed (e.g Gudni). That's why I have more confidence in Dawson & Wheater than Knight or Ream. Now given that Knight has been made captain, looks like he's going nowhere. This and the continued faith in Bogdan worries me most at moment, otherwise I'm more than happy with DF. Plus about Dawson. No doubt at all he improved our defence but that wasn't actually too hard was it? He is not a world beater and if WBA won't play ball surely there are other options. Quote
Plums Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Spearing in for Chungy would make a big difference. Tierney saw yesterday how exposed he was with Chungy in front, bollocked him on more than one occasion. Quote
Didledee Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Bogdan spilled it in the very first minute and looked dodgy saving that low bouncing freekick in the 2nd half, I don't think he's brilliant but he coped all right with crosses overall and they had a few shots that bouced before he grasped it. I was thinking don't kick it, just play it from the back a lot throughout, but then I realised that if he does just roll it to Knight, then it's getting smashed up top anyway, Burnley's keeper played it on the ground to their back 4 all game. For Andrews, Lee has more creativity and ability than anyone in our team, well M.Davies and Eagles also. Edited August 4, 2013 by Didledee Quote
enzo gambaro Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I thought Beckfords touch was superb.I agree. Apart from the number of times it bounced off him/ran away from him around the box. He looked like he needs a few games, for me, which isn't surprising. Quote
fatty Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I thought there were positive glimpses of what we could become. Thought they looked good going forward when trying to thread the ball through. It's always going to take time for new players to settle in and to read each other's game game. Not as much lumping it forwards as there used to be. Obviously need a stronger defence and hopefully they'll bring someone in. I'd like to see them try a 442 with another solid striker feeding Beckford but can't have everything. bogdan still doesn't inspire confidence but I think he needs a couple of solid performances to get his own confidence levels up. frank_spencer Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Is it just me that has no issue with Bogdan? Quote
tshape Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I was far too critical coming out of the ground yesterday. Slept on it and feel more positive now. Would've won that on another day. We scored a great goal and were never really threatened even though they clearly had the beating of Wheater and Knight across the ground but so will most forwards this year. Andrews has no effect on a football match and even though Pratley turned himself into one of our most important players after a slow start, it's just not going to happen for Andrews. Lacked a bit of spark but hopefully that'll come with time and the addition of Moritz. Quote
Astley White Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Not forgetting their keeper pulled off an excellent save from Craig Davies' long range effort which would have won us the game. Quote
Astley White Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 And Wheater will get better, he has just come back from long term injury. Quote
iggy Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 (edited) Was abit of an anti climax coming away from the game with only a point after all the hype leading up to the game. But after thinking about it sober, a point away from home is a fair start. I'd rather us grow into the season than burst out the blocks and fade away. As been said already IF we can bring in another defender we and spearing we won't be too far off. In dougie we trust! Edited August 4, 2013 by iggy Quote

DaisyHWanderer Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 For me we're much more effective when we keep it on the deck and pass and move, i dont see why we have to lump it forward after a good passin move Quote
Ratwhite Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Was Wheater not a tad shaky yesterday In the words of a great philosopher (Tshape) "Wheater runs in slow motion" I was far too critical coming out of the ground yesterday. Juan.Kerr Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 No - I don't either. Me niether. As I've said before, with a settled defence in front of him he'll be ok. Another few games to bed himself in from Wheater and he'll be part of that settled defence. Quote
Rembrandt Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Bogdan spilled the ball from an innocuous low cross into his golamouth in the 1st minute of the first match of the season, under no pressure at all. Nothing to do with the dodgy centre-backs in front of him. Things like that won't help settle a team. He can be much better than that. His holding & catching & punching later were good. He needs to cut out these too-regular dodgy moments. A bit like Knight. Wheater is not match fit but (if I remember rightly) he was slow pre-injury with a bad habit of being rounded & pulling his opponent back. Quote
tomski Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Making 2 kopites do the white hot pose for photographs and calling them our feeder club made my day. Quote
Drew Peacock Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Bogdan should me made to watch videos of Pepe Reina and Kasper Schmeichel and how to distribute a ball properly. Just hoofing it up field patently doesn't work. Quote
smeghead83 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I thought Baptists played a blinder yesterday. It was the first time i'd seen him in action and he helped out the central defenders on a number of occasions. Medo was also a positive. Quote
Casino Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Is it just me that has no issue with Bogdan? me and freedman like him, too if he was korean he'd get much less stick Quote
bolty58 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Can't be arsed reading this entire thread. Game was live on Sultana down here. 7-15pm kick off - lovely. Overall, pretty happy - plenty to gel yet. One worry - centre back pairing. Looks woefully short of pace. Needs attention for certain. Quote
fatty Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 For me we're much more effective when we keep it on the deck and pass and move, i dont see why we have to lump it forward after a good passin move Agree 100 percent and maybe lump it up now and again just to mix it up a bit. Bogdan seems shaky but maybe just needs a bit of a good run to get things a bit more second nature but there comes a point when he should be there and enoughs enough and give t'other lad a go. Quote
Plums Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 They had better players to distribute to. So did Burnley by that methodology Quote
Carlos Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Or maybe we didn't chase the ball back, so the keeper had more time on the ball? Quote
