matty2094 Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 (edited) We didn't play brilliantly today but a win when you're not playing well is a win nonetheless. Unfortunate injury for Pratley if it is a break. We clearly set up to be hard to beat, but first 20 minutes were a bit nerve wrecking. We could've been 3 or 4 nil down. Happy enough with all the new recruits, feel a lot more at ease with Howard in net over Amos. Wheater and Beevers look quite composed, Wheater looked a cut above. One concern I've got is how would you get our flair players in the team that started today ie. Clayton, Clough, Mark Davies, Taylor in a balanced team Edited August 6, 2016 by matty2094 Quote
famouswanderer Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Feel great after that. Was fucking certain they were going to bag a last minute equaliser. Think we have found a manager that knows how to defend. Early days though. Quote
Jack Daniels Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Can't honestly remember the last time I came out of the ground happy and boiling hot....great day....just can't understand why the wife has gone off on one when I told her I'd be late 'cos the floodlights failed. Quote
Casino Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 They had no bottles of water at one single kiosk in ESL. Some quick arithmetic puts me at over a 1000 games Not once have I wanted to buy a bottle of water Maybe it's just me? Quote
clown Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Thought madine played well Super or all-purpose? Quote
Benny Bear Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Just a few thoughts. Today's victory was a victory for hard work and organisation. Sheffield Utd started well and for 20 mins we hardly has a touch of the ball. Part of the problem was that Madine offered no way out when we cleared the ball. After that he started showing for the ball and making a general nuisance of himself. It seemd to knock them out of their stride. The defence were solid with Wheater and Beevers commanding. In fact for all Sheff Utd's play they didn't have an effort on target worthy of the name. With the narrowing and shortening of the pitch it seems obvious that we are going to play a tight defensive game - a total contrast to what we have seen in the last few years. We will need a flair player who can put his foot on the ball - some teams will sit back and expect us to break the down - clever player needed - Clough, Clayton or the pace of Woolery. Howard - looked solid. Came for punches. Great kick at the end right into the corner to run the clock down. Buxton - Looked solid. Nothing went past him. Moxey - most early attacks came down his side and they got a lot of crosses in. Stopped later on. Wheater - Commanding Beevers - Commanding Spearing - great goal had a good game. Still managed to get caught in possession a couple of times! Pratley aka Pogba! Did a couple of spectacular tricks i.e. flicking it over the players head and running onto it. Shame he got injured. Decent hard working game. Taylor - Very quiet. Didn't get involved enough. Vela - Still gives the ball away to too much. His touch is not good. Wilson - obviously we were player a defensive game and so he proved useful on the right side of midfield. Madine - Ugly but effective Proctor - won everything in the air. Worked hard. Davies - Quiet. Trotter - Okay. Decent job. Crowd were fabulous and shut the away following up. Nice to have a win on the opening day evening if it was a pretty one. Just think we could be Blackburn! Quote
radcliffe white Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Just seen the interview from Parkinson, and I know we have heard good words from previous managers but really like this guy. He touched on getting the connection with the fans which is great onwards and upwards???? Quote
mickbrown Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I've got a new bloke sat next to me. Luckily for me it seems he's a UEFA licenced coach who is on first name terms with all the players. Could be a long old season. Quote
Happy Wanderer Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 A win is a win and I don't care how we get 3 points as long as they keep coming and we get out of this league. Quote

superkev Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Sheff Utd are favourites for the league. Ther'll be some proper dog shit teams in this division. I'm rather optimistic. Rather sobering that the next home game is Fleetwood. We should be looking at winning every home game???????? Quote

Ratwhite Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 They had no bottles of water at one single kiosk in ESL. They'd also ran out of pretty much every other product come halfway through half time. They ended up giving out plastic cups of tap water at one kiosk after folk booted off that it was like the surface of Mars upstairs and it was their responsibility to provide hydration and sanitation to paying customers. On the pitch can't complain at all. Great atmosphere and the little lad loved it. I went for bootle of water in WSU (session break paracetamol stop), they had none there. Asked for tap water, got a pint for free. Result and a Result Onwards and upwards Quote
birch-chorley Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 (edited) Great to get the points, been a long wait since 2010 for an opening day win However that team we put out isn't very good at creating / scoring goals, I can't think of a shot n target apart from the goal If that was our regular 11 I doubt we would get to a goal a game Still think we need 1 or 2 more additions or real quality going forward if we are to make a challenge for promotion Edited August 7, 2016 by birch-chorley Quote
HomerJay Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Wilson shouldnt play right wing again. But he should play ahead of buxton. Not convinced by him at all. Taylor can't have touched the ball moor than 3 or 4 times and offered no protection to moxey. Trotter was awful when he came on. Davies looked scared of being tackled and seemed to get rid of the ball as soon as possible. Madine did ok, considering he had no service at all. I hope parkys tactics don't just consist of long diagonals from the back. The game was played at a crazy pace. Very scrappy. We seem to have dropped in quality yet again in terms of passing ability. Spearing and Wheater were a cut above the rest. fucking cracking win. More of the same please. Quote
Casino Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 From what I've seen, we have three players who can pass the ball Pass it forward and I'm down to one None of the three started yesterday We won, so no worries Quote

Big thumbs up to the crowd particularly the north stand and east stand corner short in numbers but large in passion and noise moved there at HT and my lad loved it the young uns need to see that passion it inspires them to be fans, just in front of us 6-7 young lads about 8 years old all stood up singing along it was brilliant. ???? I think we all just jeed to trust the manager. There's only him that knows anything about this league. Once they didn't score in that first half an hour they hadn't the foggiest of what to do, especially when they went a goal down. They just didn't know how to break us down and couldn't handle jay Spearings retention. https://twitter.com/sshieldofficial/status/761968317041172481 ....video you tweeted mounts. Great stuff Quote

Great stuff It goes to show we can create an atmosphere with just 13k home fans on those who use the Macron shit no atmosphere excuse should come along and join those of us are who are trying and sometimes succeeding in creating one, it helps when the team look like their trying anyhow onwards and upwards.
