This so reminds me of my childhood but with my older brothers, they raised me when my dad wasn't there. But it was the kinks, style council, the jam, etc. He had the scooter with chrome mirrors and I thought it was so cool.

Then it was acid and rave, trance and dance my younger elder brother introduced me to but New Order just stuck with me for some reason.

Happy times 😊

Your dad didn’t get a scooter all the way to Australia did he?

You guys are lucky… my dad loved what is now coolly known as Irish Trad, Jennifer Rush and ABBA. Daniel ODonnell was a bit edgy, Stu Allen referred to as radio Africa… I had a massive musical explosion when I hit high school and still taking me years to catch up

In all seriousness, I absolute love Wings. I loved them before I even knew The Beatles existed as my dad got a new stereo system and put his old one in my bedroom when I was about 7, and the only tape I had was a compilation he'd made of Wings songs (with 'The Ace of Spades' by Motorhead stuck on the end of side 2 for some unknown reason). I used to stick my headphones on and listen to it while I went to sleep. Must've done that every single night for at least a year, so their songs are deeply embedded in my brain. I even convinced myself that Paul McCartney was my uncle because my real uncle looked a bit like him (he didn't, but that's what my tiny brain thought). Then my dad taught me how to use the turntable and gave me an LP called 'The Beatles Ballads' that had a weird trippy sleeve, and I've been absolutely fucking hooked on them ever since.

I'll never forget nonchalently singing 'Yesterday' in the car and my dad saying "How the hell do you know all the words to that song?", and I felt dead proud. Weird what sticks in your brain. Whenever I listen to any of the songs that appeared on that LP, I can almost still hear the pops and crackles in the exact same places as the scratches on the vinyl I had. Still got it somewhere.

Teenage me found Radiohead a bit wimpy.

I'd gone straight from pop compilation CDs to Korn, Machine Head, Fear Factory etc.

I've grown to appreciate them more now but at the time I'd discovered music could do this and anything softer was "shit"

I've known a few who have gone to the trouble. A costly and red tape laden exercise.

The smart ones realised that there would be some barn find gems already here. A much sounder route to take from an economic perspective.

Just ‘discovered’ Ted Lasso, knew it was there but never fancied it.

Brilliant.

Is what everyone says

I've yet to be that person

I know it's there, I know it's meant to be surprisingly good, but I still don't fancy it

I was that person, think you need to do 2 or 3 episodes and you will know one way or the other.

It is funny and generally feel good. If it helps convert you there is a lesbian scene at some point.

Once you get into the second series it all gets very much samey and a bit boring

Yeah, it's not all that. Women love it, which tells you how good it is.
It's all a bit wet and soft.

It's nothing groundbreaking but it's really popular because it's good wholesome fun which came out at a time where everyone was depressed during Covid.

I stuck with it as I'm a bit sad in that I think I've started it so I'll finish it

The Mrs liked it so we stick it out. Did it do a third series? Can't remember as everything just morphed into one

The documentary on iPlayer about Paul McCartney finding his 1961 Hofner Bass that was stolen in 1972 is very good if you're a Beatles fan.

Just watched it. It is indeed very good even if you’re not particularly a Beatles fan like me. Much like the Get Back documentary the other year

I was the same. Watched the first two series which were OK then sacked it off.

I’ve not got that far… the annoying, loud swearing kids. It’s no big stretch

They are John McAtees cousins

Arrogant, tubby little gobshites. Had the pleasure of coaching them
